Bureaucracy and mobile payments
  • The Taiwan government has been promoting mobile payment since early 2018, aiming to have it penetrate 90% of all retail transactions in 2025, according to Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).

MOEA said it has so far approved 88 mobile payment application projects proposed by small- to medium-size enterprises for subsidization, with total subsidy reaching NT$526 million (US$17.2 million) and related investments totaling NT$1.143 billion

Government loves such ways of payment, as it allows they to spread due to higher taxes. It also makes much more simple to hike taxes and also to punish anyone as you no longer need real people who will run for them and find money, all you need is one press of a button and penalty is deducted from their account.

Big companies also love them as they can count all your purchases and places where you made them, so they can come and destroy smaller shops.
