Intel Ice Lake is first 10nm mobile and desktop CPU architecture
  • The Ice Lake processor family is a successor to the 8th generation Intel® Core™ processor family. These processors utilize Intel’s industry-leading 10 nm+ process technology.

This appeared on Intel site. Means that Cannon Lake will remain mobile only line with small amount produced.

And actual 10nm desktop chips will be available most probably around 2019.

  • Few leaked news.

Ice Lake for first time will have 8 core CPU is mainstream desktop line.

They also will be compatible with Z390 chipset (but can be incompatible to quickly made Z370).

Intel senior fellow Mark Bohr presented specification updates showing Intel's 10nm is a full generation ahead of other "10nm" technologies in terms of both transistor density and transistor performance. Intel claimed its 10nm technology has the world's tightest transistor and metal pitches, created with hyper scaling, for the highest density in the industry. Hyper scaling is a term used by Intel to describe the 2.7x logic transistor density improvement attained on the company's 14nm and 10nm processes. And, for the first time, Intel's "Cannon Lake" 10nm wafer was on public display.

  • And instantly

Intel has reportedly been facing difficulties with its 10nm process. The Cannon Lake processors, originally set for launch in 2017, have seen their launch schedule revised three times: first to the end of 2017 or early 2018, then to the mid-2018, and now the end of 2018.

  • When might we see a Ice Lake desktop CPU available for purchase? 2020?

  • @CFreak

    Can be never.

As all mobile chips are low clocked due to process issues.

In plans first desktop processor using 10nm is in 2021.

  • Usual price with 400-500% margins

GPU is really better, but outside this it is sad story
