Budget workstations
  • I'm looking for a budget editing pc around the 1,500 range. Something that will run premiere pro cc smoothly and some light work in after effects. I'm only editing in 1080 right now, but ideally I'd like something that could handle 4k when that time comes.

What do you guys think of this Asus desktop?

Would my bank account be better off if i custom built a pc? Or should i dig around craigslist for something used? I'm coming from a mac so this is sort of new to me.

    Thanks.

  • Building one yourself is always a better option. For 4K editing, I believe more cores the better and I would go beyond quad-core. I have a quad-core that is getting a little old in the teeth and I need to bring down the preview resolution to edit 4K. For grading, you can do better than the GTX 970 if you want an optimal system. Somebody will probably chime in on a build here soon.
