Germany should thank its hackers - government malware discovered
  • "Chaos Computer Club analyzes government malware
    2011-10-08 19:00:00, admin

The largest European hacker club, "Chaos Computer Club" (CCC), has reverse engineered and analyzed a "lawful interception" malware program used by German police forces. It has been found in the wild and submitted to the CCC anonymously. The malware can not only siphon away intimate data but also offers a remote control or backdoor functionality for uploading and executing arbitrary other programs. Significant design and implementation flaws make all of the functionality available to anyone on the internet."

The parts about that software I like most:

    1) They can upload and execute every software they want. For example they can upload "evidence" (kids porn, bomb construction plans,..) and later secure the computer, which will be used as evidence to denunciate you. Or if you a terrorist, paedophile,.. just install the maleware on your computer and all your data can't be used against you, as it can't be proofen it was put there by you.

    2) All data from your computer is first going to an US server....for easy industrial espionage.

    Brave new world!

  • Can I ask you what is so interesting here?
  • @Vitaliy_Kiselev

Something like this has never happend before in Germany, especially after a law from the Federal Court of Justice is exactly forbidding these kind of software.

But if you think it is inapropiate for this forum, feel free to delete the post. (I think it is not more or less interesting than US economic problems, but I see the world with german eyes;-)
  • I absolutely sure that goverment organizations around the world, in each country, have tons of such stuff.

This is why I asked why it is so interesting.
  • Sure, but I don't know of a country in Europe where that software has ever been found used in public. But you - as a pro in this field - know way more than I do.

(So, please delete this thread if you think it is not of interest - I don't want to litter the forum with useless threads.)
  • >But you - as a pro in this field - know way more than I do.

I am not a "pro in this field" :-)
  • You are at least more pro than I am in this field:-P

(I'm only hacking hardware like manual lenses or pictures with Photoshop.)
