For this I filmed a resolution chart on my computer screen from a distance, using Quantum 50-100 settings which use quality settings that are already over the line for 2fps be it AVCHD or MJPEG. I loaded the MOV files into AVIDemux and extracted 100% lossless snapshots to compare the various modes. Shot on M Movie Mode, aperture and shutter speed were both fixed.

Note: I'm only showing the relevant 100% screen captures but all the files generated in this test (and I tested both HD and VGA modes) weight in at 38.5MB and can be d/l here: http://www.mediafire.com/?u2h8ycc2c6vmj0a

Unless marked as AVCHD all other files are MJPEG.

Myth 1 - MJPEG 1080p is MJPEG 720p up-scaled.

Result: Plausible.

It's too close to call, really! Even though there is evidence of a very very small resolution advantage to 1080p, it is hardly noticeable and it could be a consequence of the input-output workflow of 720 being done in a smaller resolution.

Evidence: (look at the second image, I can't delete the first which is similar)

GH5 Firmware Update - Performance Enhancement http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/18808/gh5-firmware-update-performance-enhancement Wed, 17 Jan 2018 16:33:14 +0000 Mckinise 18808@/talks/discussions Yosuke Yamane-san - the head of imaging at Panasonic talks about if required they would release a firmware update for the GH5.

The statement begins at 3:30. He talks about the GH5s being created because they listened to consumers. Then at 3:45 he says that if required they would release a firmware update for the GH5.

What Realistic Features would you like added to the GH5 via firmware update?

Cinema 4k (4096 x 2160): NX1 vs GH4 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14454/cinema-4k-4096-x-2160-nx1-vs-gh4 Mon, 18 Jan 2016 06:41:25 +0000 Mckinise 14454@/talks/discussions We've seen comparisons between the GH4 and the NX1 UHD (3840 x 2160), but has anyone done a comparison of the image quality between the GH4 and the NX1 in Cinema 4k (4096 x 2160) mode?

Very interesting in the following:

Sharpness:

Moire:

Cadence:

Low light:

Rolling Shutter:

Sigma 18-35 vs Tokina 11-16 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14184/sigma-18-35-vs-tokina-11-16 Fri, 11 Dec 2015 09:26:03 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 14184@/talks/discussions Both optics are excellent. I would like to know the experience of many users if it were to acquire one Panasonic video with which to stay? For me personally it has always surprised me that the Tokina with GH's achieved a very particular look.

For video: GX7 vs A6000 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10848/for-video-gx7-vs-a6000 Sun, 20 Jul 2014 22:30:38 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 10848@/talks/discussions we all know that Sony is actually the best manufacturer of sensors and has done wonderful work with the A6000 which provides a number of options that make it almost unbeatable in its price range, only the inclusion of a clean HDMI video output makes it a serious camera.

On paper the specifications and level of A6000 seems better. However in my experience with the NEX-5N even consider Sony in color reproduction is some steps below respect to M4/3 (in FF is another story), the A6000 has greatly improved with colors, but I dont have seen a video that me is convincing in paragraph colorful as offering GX7, which seems a kind of mini GH4, si I do not understand that the manufacturer block the HDMI output when recording video.

If you were to stay with one camera between these two, with which you stay?

Panasonic G6 Spring promotion - help please... http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10018/panasonic-g6-spring-promotion-help-please... Tue, 01 Apr 2014 13:38:26 +0000 Spinsterboy 10018@/talks/discussions Hi,

long time PV user - first time poster.

I'd like to ask some opinions - Here in the UK Panasonic are about to launch a spring promotion (it's a bit hush hush) the deal is, you buy a GH3, and get the battery grip and a 22mm 1.4 Panny lens thrown in for good measure. (could be a 24mm though) anyway, I currently shot with a G6 making music videos and youtube stuff, but I do occasionally shoot higher end stuff. Do i trade in the G6 (and pray it then doesn't get hacked the week after) and trade up to the GH3, or stick with the G6?

I like the weather sealing feature, and the higher bitrates, but i'll miss peaking...

I read somewhere that the GH3 has a smaller sensor - is this right?

Will i see a big jump in quality? And if not is this deal too good to miss?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Nikon D600 or Hacked GH2? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9563/nikon-d600-or-hacked-gh2 Thu, 06 Feb 2014 21:14:36 +0000 mjwhitaker 9563@/talks/discussions Hey guys,

I've been using a hacked GH2 for a couple of years and have been really happy with the results. Just recently though, I had a shoot and the GH2 gave me some issues. My camera froze several times while using Moon T7, even with a 95mb/s Sandisk, causing me to miss several key shots. Also, when lighting conditions changed unexpectedly, the GH2 once again let me down with its poor low light performance. There were 2 other cameras on the shoot that picked up my slack, both were Nikon D600's. They smashed my low light performance and of course had no difficulties with their firmware. I've been wanting a full frame cam for a while anyway, so today I decided to buy a Nikon D600. Obviously I haven't really had a chance to do much yet, but after some brief initial tests, I think I'm coming down with a case of buyer's remorse. I was wondering if any of you guys had the opportunity to use both cameras on actual shoots and why type of results you got.

Gx1 or GF5 for filiming and! photographing http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5644/gx1-or-gf5-for-filiming-and-photographing Wed, 02 Jan 2013 11:54:54 +0000 mschaa 5644@/talks/discussions Hi. I do own a Gh3 and am thinking about another little camera as a backup.

So possibly the GF5 or GF3 or GX1.

I do not need the viewfinder or hotshoe... GF3 and GX1 are hacked...but GF5 not...

Any ideas when using them 50/50 for photo and video?

Any help welcome!

Regards Michael

Vivitar vs Canon FD lenses http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4968/vivitar-vs-canon-fd-lenses Tue, 23 Oct 2012 07:57:35 +0000 phazedreality818 4968@/talks/discussions hello all. i am very new to photography and videography. i have purchased a gh2 about 2 months ago and love it. my dad had some old school canon fd lenses laying around from when he was in the military in the early 80s. i bought the ciecio7 adapter and it works wonderfully. i love how the images are detailed, yet soft, and how the bokeh is incredibly nice.

i have a 50mm f1.8 and a 135mm 3.5

i am looking to buy a wider angle lens but i am caught between canon lenses and vivitar lenses for the fd mount. i am looking to get a fast (f2.0 or lower) 24 or 28mm lens, and the vivitar ones are much much much more affordable than their canon counterpart.

my question is this. how much of a difference is there between the canon fd and vivitar fd lenses? is the difference in price worth it to go for the canon? how does the vivitar lens hold up on its own?

Video Monopod VS Shoulder Rig http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3221/video-monopod-vs-shoulder-rig Tue, 15 May 2012 18:04:43 +0000 redbaron 3221@/talks/discussions What is your preference? After using both, I am leaning to the monopod approach. For me, It's easier to get quick, steady, pseudo-lock-down shots in a run and gun situation than a shoulder rig.
