You all know about this lens. Indispensable in a GH2/3 or any other micro four thirds kit. The OIS is great on this lens, and I relied on it many times in run and gun situations and it preformed admirably. Great zoom.

Is Leica 14-50 F3.8 better than Panasonic 14-45? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6611/is-leica-14-50-f3.8-better-than-panasonic-14-45 Fri, 05 Apr 2013 22:48:04 +0000 cmountman 6611@/talks/discussions Hello

I need some help choosing between the Leica 14-50 F3.8-5.6 and the Panasonic 14-45 (not the pancake lens). I already have the Leica lens and am thinking to sell it to buy the 14-45 for quieter operation but I am wondering if the 14-45 will produce a lesser quality footage than the 14-50. The IOS is noisy but my main question for this thread is the actual difference in image quality between the 2 lenses

If any of you have any experience using both of these lenses I would really appreciate feedback

Thanks

I am totally satisfied with D700's stills, and the only reason I'd get D800 is the video. Right now I carry GH2 for video and D700 for stills, would be nice to have the best of both worlds in one body. I bet some of you handled or even own both GH2 and D800. Would you be so kind to share your impressions?

Iris Tweak vs ISO Tweak http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6528/iris-tweak-vs-iso-tweak Thu, 28 Mar 2013 05:54:25 +0000 PCortacans 6528@/talks/discussions (Vitaliy, I have no idea where to post this; sorry if this is not the right place)

I was reading the other day about de-clicking old Nikon lenses, and people's comments about how they'd like to slightly tweak the iris "on the fly" to adjust for minor light changes. Since I have a photographer background, the first thing that came to my mind is "Why would you want to do that? Doing so will change the depth of field!". Ok. Tweaking can be interpreted as "less than a click", that is, less than 1 stop (or 1/2 in some brands). But still, my question to you guys is "Why?" Is it because it is the only basic parameter (Aperture/SSpeed/ISO) that you can change on the fly, and not via camera menus? (You wouldn't want to change the SSpeed anyway.... And for the sake of this discussion, let's pretend we are on the less noisy side of the ISO values). What are the benefits of changing Iris? If you could decide to change Iris vs ISO (which takes me back to "Panasonic: Auto-ISO in Manual Movie Mode, por favor...!!!"), which one would you choose?

Since today we are going to directly participate in design and development of system cameras firmware for selected cameras produced by Panasonic Corporation, and DSC Business unit specifically.

Such progress had become possible due few key decisions made by Seiichiro Sano, Shiro Nishiguchi and other top managers in February 2012. We had been in touch whole March and information obtained during this period, as well as new direct communication that we had, are really invaluable. I want to express my special thanks to Ichiro Kitao and Michiharu Uematsu.
As well as to our direct contact and lead of Venus Revolution team - Yukio Ito.

I could hardly wait last days, but announcement could be made only today, due to the starting of new financial year for Panasonic Corporation and Senior Management changes completion.

Feel free to ask me questions and I'll try to answer them as good as I can (taking in account signed NDA).
Yukio Ito will join me here, answering questions, on Monday.

P.S. Jump to pages 6 and 7 and look at videos for more details.

Although it is raining quite heavily, that's good as I want to film the water droplets but I'd be interested to know if anyone has had any problems with the camera getting wet/damp and whether I should take precautions other than an umbrella?

I'll be using old manual glass if that makes any difference Zenitar/Nikon

Also if anyone in NW London has a monitor I could borrow in three weeks that'd be great ;)

Upcoming: Free EQ and FX Presets for GH2 Internal Mic and Rode VMP (Possibly GH3) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6091/upcoming-free-eq-and-fx-presets-for-gh2-internal-mic-and-rode-vmp-possibly-gh3 Mon, 11 Feb 2013 16:12:27 +0000 thepalalias 6091@/talks/discussions Some of my recent conversations with GH2 users made me realize that a lot of people could benefit from some decent EQ presets specifically tailored to the GH2 and some of the mics used with it.

I won't make some big marketing push for why mine would be better than anybody else's - in the last decade and a half of working with software FX I've learned there are a lots of ways to make things sound great. I also won't make any money off of this so there would be no point. :) But I do want to make it as easy as possible for people that aren't used to dealing with EQ to get a good sound.

Now here's the part where you come in. The tricky part of making presets is that they have to be widely usable. I'll be making these on a Windows machine (I spend more time in Windows than OS X) so whatever plug-in I make them for will need to work in that environment. I am thinking I would like to use the free ReaPlugs suite from Cockos, but my question is whether people would prefer that I use those or the ones native to Reaper itself?

If I use the ones internal to Reaper, then I seem to remember they may also work on OS X. But if I use the ReaPlugs suite, they will work in any host but Windows only.

Here are the links to each: http://www.reaper.fm/ http://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/index.php

So, which version would you guys prefer? Feel free to suggest other free plug-ins or other microphones you would like covered. I'm open to doing the same thing for the GH3 if there's sufficient interest.

    Panasonic GF2 video output during recording? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5372/panasonic-gf2-video-output-during-recording Tue, 04 Dec 2012 11:01:18 +0000 Igor_van_Airde 5372@/talks/discussions Hello,

I got a Panasonic GF2 and have some trouble with the analog video output. I want to use the output to preview video during recording. I already found that you can enable the live output by pressing Q.MENU for some seconds. This works fine for capturing stilts, but if you start recording a video, the output shows only black as long as you record the video. After stopping recording, you have normal output again.

I think this is just a firmware restriction that can be removed! Any suggestions?

And I really need the analog output all the time, because I want to operate the camera remotecontrolled and get the preview via an analog video transmitter.

    Panasonic AG-AC160 For Sale (re-listed) £2300 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5764/panasonic-ag-ac160-for-sale-re-listed-2300 Sun, 13 Jan 2013 11:05:15 +0000 Sph1nxster 5764@/talks/discussions I am selling a Panasonic AG-AC160 (firmware updated) Camcorder. UK RRP £3500

The camcorder is 15 months old and still within its 3 year warranty. The camera is in perfect condition, no scratches or damage whatsoever. Fully functional and has been a perfect performer for quite a few jobs now. Original box and all cables / manuals

Individual Items as follows :- (subject to additional shipping costs)

    • AC160 = £2300

All items are based in Peterhead, Scotland, UK and will ship to most countries

If you are interested in any or all of these items then please PM me. Please note PAYPAL will be required for transaction and items can only be sent once payment has been received.

The reason i am selling these items is that we wish to downsize our operations into micro four thirds format for all our cameras and the sale of the AC160 is to generate enough money to purchase another GH3 with lenses.

If you are wanting an excellent performing camcorder for ENG work that is capable of producing stunning images then this should be a serious consideration to save some money.

    Thanks,

14-45mm Panasonic lens issue http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6351/14-45mm-panasonic-lens-issue Wed, 06 Mar 2013 18:42:35 +0000 prince 6351@/talks/discussions Hi, I recently got a used panasonic 14-45 lens from ebay described to be in very good condition. The lens seems so cheaply made, nowhere near my legacy lenses, it's like a toy...Real letdown. But what really troubles me is the zoom ring. It's okay when doing fast to medium movements but it feels sticky when zooming slow. It jerks and it's really hard to frame accurately especially on the wide side. Is the lens faulty or the same goes for your units? Thanks.

Bricked my GH1. Help on a replacement http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6180/bricked-my-gh1.-help-on-a-replacement Tue, 19 Feb 2013 06:36:07 +0000 ppcroft 6180@/talks/discussions Sorry if there is a similar thread, but could not find it. Apologies if this is long....

I was being stupid and tried to remove the SD card that got stuck in the card slot of the 3 year old GH1 by a little force and a pin. The camera is now dead and the Panny service center told that the main board has been damaged and need replacement. It will cost in excess of $350, but parts are not available either. There is no way I am going spend that much on a GH1 now. So I am in need of a camera and need it before 10th March before I go on vacation.

GH1 was my first serious camera and it was Vitaliy's hack that kindled this passion. I have the following lenses now:

Lumix 14-140mm Lumix 20mm Samyang 85mm MF (Nikon) Nikon 50 mm 1.8 MF Vivitar 55mm 2.8 Macro MF (Nikon)

I am a casual shooter and shoots mainly family, nature etc., especially while on holidays. I was sold out by the GH1 videos and I have almost used the camera 80% for videos. Now that is not to say I don't use it for stills. Well, stills are not so much fun with the GH1 (peace, in a more capable hands they sure can be). Of the lenses I use, I almost always use 14-140 for video and by virtue of being having AF and myself being lazy, use it for stills as well. This a not a very ideal solution. I had always wanted a quality lens that can can do AF, video etc. day/night. The MF lenses while excellent, had me working more and I always found myself missing the fun while in the middle of changing lens, adapter and doing manual focus etc.. All this combined made sure the GH1 was mainly a video camera. I often wondered changing format and going for a Nikon or Canon for stills and have some AF lenses for them. The bulk and costs kept me at bay. Where I live the m4/3 is almost unheard of. Even the Panasonic service engineer had not heard of the GH1 when I spoke to him. So Panasonic lenses may be of little resale value here. So that was another factor in looking at m4/3 solution as a replacement camera.

Having been an avid follower of these forums, I took a break for almost an year as I was trying to learn other things like Adobe CS6 etc. Now the sudden demise of GH1 made me search and there was this GH3 with almost universal praise. I hoped the GH3 would solve my problems with the still photography if were to mate it with a good AF lens like the 12-35 or 35-100 from Panny. In a moment of excitement I back-ordered a GH3 body+ battery + 2 year B&H SquareTrade warranty for about $1550. The lenses have to wait for now. However now there is a possibility that the camera may not be delivered by 10th March deadline...

It is then that I read about the Olympus OMD EM-5. I had totally missed the noise around this one. The IBIS and image quality seemed quite a match for the MF lenses that I had (was planning on a Samyang 35mm cine lens, but now the budget is gone). Video seem inferior to Gh3. I also feel it may not be comfortable to hold the body with big lenses sans the grip. The camera is available right now and cheaper and...I could not make up my mind.

So I am now looking at options as an after thought..I think I can change my order with the B&H.. I would appreciate suggestions what would be a best camera GH3, OMD EM-5 or any other. Any suggestions welcome.. Thanks in advance

We didn't loose too much in the shadows either, but a little bit more though we darkened the surface so much.

The grade was made in Adobe After Effects only using curves.

Never been able to get close to that with a 14-140 (on GH2) , until yesterday when I placed (by mistake) a rubber band on top of the focal scale and bingo: the zoom gets the right resistance and now it can be smooth (even on slow action, even on very slow action). almost as good as a lanc zoom controller set slow. the band should be large enough to cover the entire scale (broccoli bands are a little big and don't give a good resistance, but they can be shorten with a clip or something. The band that I used came from a softbox for flash). Works very well with a lensstrap zoom lever. Well, this works for me, just wanted to share.
