Panasonic Anamorphic adapter http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9604/panasonic-anamorphic-adapter Wed, 12 Feb 2014 14:29:18 +0000 tokyo187 9604@/talks/discussions Hello again! I am wondering about the right decision in choosing an anamorphic option. There are so many, that have become rareties in some respect. There is the Panasonic AG-LA7200 16:9 Anamorphic Lens Adapter, which is average price is 1000 dollars. Than we have a Century Precision adapter, which is harder to find, but a cheaper pick-up, that seems to provide intense flares. Now we also have the endless array of anamorphic projector lenses, adapted with lens clamps and such, that some say is better, and some say not so much. These include Kowa(which do look pretty nice sporting a 2x Anamorphic, ranging from 100 bucks to over 700, Isco-Optic focusing ana proj lens, and the Sankyoscope anamorphot 1.5x including a +0.5 diopter, focus through, which I haven't found for less than 1000 dollars, and I'm not sure how much the diopter will assist me, but anyhow there are many more, which I'm sure most are aware of. I am just hoping to get a little more insight into what the best and most effective options are.

Thank you Kindly, -Trev

Cranking frame rate on GH3 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8846/cranking-frame-rate-on-gh3 Thu, 21 Nov 2013 13:33:55 +0000 gh2simon 8846@/talks/discussions So I finally broke down and got myself a GH3. Could almost not be happier with the ol' GH2, but the one thing I was missing was the higher frame rate for 1080p. Thing is, I bought the new camera in Sweden, and default settings do not include 60fps in either of the modes, only 50fps, I think. 50 is fine I guess, but it bugs me that I lack the slightly faster setting. Switching output from PAL to NTSC seemingly does not do the trick, and neither does updating firmware to the official "GH3__V12.exe" from Panasonic. Am I missing something or am I screwed? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The only way to do it is to sideload the Lumix Link apk file, but I cannot find that anywhere. I even have Lumix Link installed on my cell phone and can't find the apk file there. Mysterious. There are a few links that I can find on Google, but they always refer me to the Google Play store and the only option there is to install the program. Kindle doesn't even connect to Play Store, so that doesn't help me.

Does anyone know of a link to the Lumix Link apk file please?

Got the chance to take my 10 year old son there for Christmas. It was truly one of the best experiences of my life.

Filmed with my Panasonic GH3, GoPro 3 Black, and Modified Full Spectrum GF1 simultaneously. I shot with the GoPro on the GH3's hot shoe so I would have simultaneous wide angle and tight views. The GF1 was on a tripod and was put in Black and White mode with contrast turned all the way up because of the extra UV/IR light that is let in. It can literally see in the dark.

No color grading was done at all. I simply don't have time for it. This is straight out of the camera video just pieced together with the music.

I think the future of filming is multiple cameras operated by a single person. Maybe just a pipe dream but it is still my dream.

FS: Anamorphic Lenses [Panasonic, Century and Isco] http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8029/fs-anamorphic-lenses-panasonic-century-and-isco Sat, 07 Sep 2013 03:46:02 +0000 tferradans 8029@/talks/discussions Hey guys! Over the last year I've experimented a lot of different anamorphic lenses, and now has come the time to sell the ones I won't be using, and keep my favorites! I'm new to this forum, but I'm an active member, and have already sold a lot of gear there. I'm from Brazil. :)

I only accept PayPal. Taxes and shipping are my responsibility. If interested, send me an email! ferradans@gmail.com

1 - Century Optics Bayo 58mm. (1.33x stretch, focus through)

Hardest version of the Century to get, this one has 58mm rear threads. Glass is in perfect condition, no haze, scratches or dust. It comes with front and rear caps. Won't go as wide as the Panasonic, but it's perfectly fine at 35mm on Full Frame, no vignetting at all, and corner sharpness is much better.

The focusing process uses only the taking lens, no double-focus nightmare here. Blueish-futuristic flares, stretches out perfectly to 2.35:1 from a 16:9 HD image.

SOLD

Century 58mm photos (this sale doesn't include redstan clamp) http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/album/52-century-optics-169-58mm/

2 - Panasonic LA7200 + Extras. (1.33x stretch, focus through)

I've modded this one hard, to fit every need. Now I'm moving towards LOMOs and would be sad to let this baby in the locker, gathering dust. I've machined a custom front for it, creating 105mm filter threads for attaching big diopters - which are somewhat hard to come across.

The glass is in perfect condition, no haze, fungus, scratches or chips this time. Rear thread is secured with Redstan's clamp, with 67mm threads, closest pairing possible with the taking lens. I'm including front and rear caps - not the original ones - and the original lens pouch. As everyone already knows, it's focus through, allows you to rack focus on the taking lens and go extra wide-angle at the same time. Has some problems regarding corner sharpness, but I think it's awesome.

I'm including in this kit a custom-made filter holder for 4.5" diopters, and three of these: +0.5, +1 and +2, Tiffen, in perfect shape. This way, you won't need anything else in order to start shooting with this lens, even at the widest lenses and apertures. This size of glass is very hard to find, and this adapter doesn't even have a copy. Single unit!

US$1250 shipped (LA7200 + redstan clamp + front clamp with 105mm threads + custom adapter 105mm to 4.5" + Diopter kit (+0.5, +1 and +2)

LA7200 photos http://www.eoshd.com/comments/gallery/album/85-panasonic-ag-la7200-clamps/

3 - Isco Widescreen 2000. (1.5x stretch, focus through)

A nice lens from the Isco family, this one isn't single focus as the Iscoramas, or double focus as the modern ISCO glass. It has a fixed focus distance, like Century, Optex and Panasonic, and all the focusing is done on the taking lens. In order to achieve closer focus, you must use close ups. I got this one off ebay about six months back, and it came with a 55mm clamp missing a screw (replaced and in perfect working condition) and a 67mm filter thread epoxied to the front of the lens. I tested it a lot to see if this ring wouldn't come off during shooting, but it's really solid. I added a 67-72mm step up at the front and a 52-55mm step up at the back (both can be easily unscrewed off). Lens is MultiCoated, so, unless you're working like this, no crazy flares.

I must inform that the rear element has some bad looking lens separation. It shows up a bit in the last photo in the link below, but it doesn't seem to affect image quality at all. When you point a badass light source directly INTO the lens (like a LED flashlight), the clipping white area is a bit bigger than it should, since the light bounces through the separation. I asked Redstan about it and he said that even bad looking like that, wouldn't affect image quality at all. Besides this, lens has no haze, fungus or scratches.

Included here is a Soligor pouch in which the lens fits neatly inside, both front and rear caps (72mm and 52mm respectively). Sitting around on my desk there's also a Sigma +1.6 62mm achromatic diopter that I'm putting into this kit as well. It comes with the original jewel case. and has no marks on the glass.

PR

(Newark, New Jersey--October 8, 2013) Panasonic has announced delivery and pricing for the AG-AC8PJ, an AVCCAM shoulder-mount with exceptional ergonomics and functionality. The AG-AC8PJ, with 1080p recording capabilities, is ideal for shooting weddings, business conferences, documentaries, sporting events (including 720p at 8Mbs, optimal for use with leading coaching analysis systems), exhibits and government activities.

The AC8PJ will ship in October with a suggested list price of $1450.00. The camcorder’s advanced functionality includes a wide angle 28mm/F1.8 lens that allows the operator to fit more people and background into the frame, especially useful in narrow spaces. A powerful 21X optical/50x super-high resolution zoom facilitates shooting scenes that are difficult to access. Intelligent auto (iA) resolution technology enables acquisition at high zoom rates while preserving the image resolution. A 1/4.5 type high-sensitivity sensor ensures bright and sharp images even in the most dimly lit scenes.

With dual SD card slots and the capability to record on both cards simultaneously, the AC8PJ’s Relay Auto Switch functionality provides dependable back-up recording or the ability to switch from one card to the other for extended recording times.

The AC8PJ offers a wide range of recording models including:1080/60p [Max. 28Mbps/VBR], (1920x1080/60p); PH [Max. 24Mbps/VBR], (1920x1080/60i); HA [Ave. 17Mbps/VBR], (1920x1080/60i); HG [Ave. 13Mbps/VBR], (1920x1080/60i); HE [Ave. 5Mbps/VBR], (1440x1080/60i); PM [Ave. 8Mbps/VBR], (1280x720/60p); and SA [Ave. 9Mbps/VBR], (720x480/60i).

Sophisticated professional capabilities include Dynamic Range Stretch (DRS), which helps compensate for wide variations in exposure in a contrast heavy scene, from light to dark; and a Focus in Red function that shows the sharp edges of a subject in red, making it stand out more easily, allowing a shooter to find focus even faster in some situations when manual focus is in use.

Input control commands can be made by the AC8PJ’s integrated 3-inch touch panel LCD and Smart Touch. The camcorder is Eye-Fi™ SD card compatible, making the transfer of recordings via a wireless network to devices like a PC or a file-sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo fast, simple and convenient. Interfaces include HDMI Type A, Microphones (stereo mini), Headphone (stereo mini), USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Host/Device, AV, and Video Component.

Other key features include a powerful 5-Access Hybrid Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S) that thoroughly suppresses blurring all the way from wide-angle to powerful zoom shots; and a manual, multi-purpose lens ring that provides fine adjustments and precise control of Focus, Zoom, Iris, White Balance and Shutter speed (a fast, accurate auto focus is also available). An illuminating LED ring allows recording verification and serves as a tally light to make shooting smoother. Other functions encompass the ability to back up hours of footage to an external portable HDD via USB; a Level Function mode that automatically detects and corrects the tilting of captured images; and a large lens hood that blocks light more effectively to reduce lens flare.

The AC8PJ weighs only five pounds, and measures 8.07 inches (W) x 8.54 inches (H) x 18.85 inches (D). The camcorder captures still images of 16:9, 20.4 megapixels [6016 x 3384 resolution], or a 4:3, 15.1 megapixels [4480 x 3360 resolution] still image. In simultaneous record mode, it can take a 16:9, 9.4 megapixels [4096 x 2304] still image or a 4:3, 1.4 megapixels [1440 x 1080] still image. A new high-performance stereo microphone is included, and standard accessories comprise an AC Adaptor, AC Cable, Rechargeable Battery Pack [2900 mAh/Lithium-ion], AV Cable, USB Cable, External Stereo Microphone, Lens Cap and Eye Cup.

Figured I'd share this with the GH2 interested community. Inspired by a post-holiday party hangover brunch, a friend and I called a few actor friends and shot this short in a single day. With one camera, one lens, a monopod, and no lighting except for the final night scene.

A warped retelling of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, in which a scumbag loan-shark learns the true meaning of Christmas. Barely.

Specs:

Trailer for my first (sort of) short film http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8853/trailer-for-my-first-sort-of-short-film Fri, 22 Nov 2013 08:40:30 +0000 Tjibbe 8853@/talks/discussions A trailer for a filmproject I'm doing with some friends, that is now in post-production. Our first attempt at something with some kind of narrative, cast, crew ect.. We thought we could shoot it in 1 night, in the end it took two exhausting 12 hour shoots + shooting a lot of shots excluding cast. I have no idea if the end result will be anything to write home about, but mán we had such a laugh and learned so much!

You can't make out much from the trailer, as usual.

Tell me what you think!

Ps. It's kind of a sequel to a video we made for the Tomorrowland goldenticket contest, which the trailer refrences.(shown below under the trailer)

Best hack for GH2 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8491/best-hack-for-gh2 Sun, 20 Oct 2013 22:21:12 +0000 Ezxxx 8491@/talks/discussions Hi, I'm a photographer and just bought a GH2 to practice my video skills. I previously did a couple of jobs as a dop using a 5Diii, a black magic and a C300 and what I'm looking at to get from the GH2 is the maximum quality. I don't need to shoot lengthy segments but I need the best image (especially in dark environment). I know I probably will never get the quality of a ML 5Diii, C300 or BMCC but this is for practice and personal projects. Could anyone suggest a few hacks?

Cheers.
