Just picked up a slightly used GX850 to do some B roll 4K video and found out that it doesn't have a manual video mode that I can find anywhere.

I've been pouring over video reviews and the specs of the Panasonic mini 4K possibilities and can't find if any of them have a manual video mode.

If anyone knows if any of these tiny 4K monsters allow you to do manual control, please let me know? Looking for an ultra light weight option to supplement my GH5.

Hi!! I am planning to buy my first (manual) analog camera and trying to decide which one to buy. I have done a little research and discovered these two. I have a propositions of

RICOH KR-10 + RICOH XR RIKENON 1:2 f=50mm L

or minolta X-300s Minolta 3.5 28mm

When it comes to X-300s Minolta I also have a possibility to choose one of those lenses: MD ROKKOR 45/2 or MD Tokina 28/2,8.

Which one would you recommend? I am just starting my adventure with the analog photography and I need a good and easy gear I can get to know really well and appreciate extensively during (especially ) this year and the years to come.

A Few Questions About: Hacked Bitrates, Auto ISO, EV, Modes

I bought a GH2 mostly for the hacked patches. I have spent hours researching to try to learn what to do and how to use the camera for video purposes. I am hoping that someone can help answer a few questions as most of my information tends to originate from this site:

Setup - In order to achieve the higher bitrates I had to use M from the dial atop the GH2. The camera icon with the M would not allow this. The tradeoff was Auto ISO with M, and adjustable ISO with the camera icon with the M. I use mostly Canon FD lenses.

1a) Bitrates - I have tried a few hacks with varying success. The best I have got is about 100MB with Flow Motion v2.02, however, most of the shots I got with this hack seem to be from 70MB-90MB. I tried Flow Motion, Driftwood's Moon T7, and two Driftwood hacks (176MB & 220MB) from a pack made by the user Sohus on this forum.

Is it common to be well below the stated bitrate amounts?

1b) AVCHD vs MJPEG - I never seemed to get very high bitrates when using 1080i, despite the hacks stating to be much higher. They would range from 15MB-40MB. To achieve higher bitrates with Flow Motion, I used MJPEG which boosted them much higher.

Shouldn't I be achieving high bitrates with AVCHD?

2) Auto ISO - Whenever I use M (from PASM) the ISO would always be set to Auto ISO. I could adjust the ISO when using the camera icon mode (with the M), but then the bitrates would suffer. I tried changing the ISO before shooting, but Auto ISO would kick in no matter what.

How do I change the ISO while in M mode?

3) EV - I know that EV depends upon shutter, aperture, and ISO, but I can see the EV when I push the Display button so I was hoping there was still a way to change it.

Am I correct to assume that because I am using Canon FD lenses I cannot use EV? Even if using a Panasonic lens, how do I change the EV (I tried, but failed).

4) Modes - I have only been able to use the hacked bitrates - and only to a certain degree - by using M with MJPEG.

What modes should I be using to use the hacked patches? The camera icon with M? High Bitrate? 24P? 1080i?

Sorry for all the questions. I am not unhappy with the camera, but I really want to know why the bitrates are not working? And moreso, why the Auto ISO can't be changed (as I don't like the amount of noise it can introduce)? Thank you!

control I have is focus.

Would any GH4 owner kindly advise me that the GH4 let them control the camera

GF1 hack (manual modes in video) bug

Hello,

I use my GF1 + firmware hack since more than 6 months, it's great, congratulations :)

I have the following problem :

Set "Mode A" for video
Shut down the camera
Power on the camera
The "Mode A" setting for video is forgotten! The only way for having "Mode A" for video again is : go in the menu, set ANOTHER mode , e.g. "Mode P" for video, and THEN go in the menu again and set "Mode A" for video again.

I know somebody else having the same problem, with the same camera.

Who should I contact about this little bug?

Follow Focus and drift-- advice?

Last night I shot a theater performance with my GH2. But the event was lit for theater, not video, so it was very dim. So I borrowed a fast Lumix 20mm prime lens. This also meant a shallow DOF, so this was a chance to try using the Fotga follow-focus rig.

I ran into a problem. I marked the furthest and nearest focus points on the Fotga's white wheel. That way, I could focus based on the distance on the wheel marks. However, I tried racking the focus back and forth a bit, to get a feel for the thing... and the settings drifted. I'd rack the focus to the mark for the back of the stage... and it wasn't in focus. Same thing for the nearest point. I'd recalibrate, but the points would drift again.

Now, there's a bit of play with the Fotga follow-focus-- and I was using a small 12mm lever that added a little more play-- but I'm wondering if there's some issue with the lens or camera settings that may have contributed.

(One thing I did learn: as you rack focus during shooting, the GH2 displays a line on the screen, i.e., mountains versus flowers. I wound up making an estimate of focus based on the indicator on that point. Seems to me that I could apply cellophane tape to the screen, mark the points on that, and use the screen's focus indicator as my follow-focus marker.)

IMHO , love the Nokton at all , nikkor got strong bokeh cool colors and is sharp , Fujinon got very nice pearly bokeh but is very soft .

Hey, I've had the Pentax Takumar 50mm f1.4 for over a year now and it's just starting to sink in how much I like that lens. Plus it's only about $100 on ebay. Got me thinking what other cheap old classic lenses are out there. Let me know if there's any forgotten old lenses that you still love to use despite manual focus and no i.s.

Tips for shooting stills on the GH2, in particular with manual lenses

So i've hardly ever shot any stills with my GH2, using it pretty much solely for video up until now. I know that it's actually one of the better m4/3 cameras for stills, and doing a holiday recently with it as my only "proper" camera I did dabble a little.

I'm always shooting my video in 24p mode, which I'm guessing is the reason that any form of still shot whilst shooting video is impossible. A bit of a shame.

I was using my Voigtlander 17.5mm f0.95 and was experiencing quite a few rubbish shots when trying to take them in program mode. I guess it wasn't working out so well having no control over the aperture. In the end i was forced to go for shutter priority and dial in something fast enough to be sharp... 1/40th or faster basically. I believe then i still had problems with auto ISO, and ended up having to manually dial in isos to get a result that looked close to what i wanted.

It seems quite a struggle really. I'm assuming with coded lenses the experience would have gone a lot more smoother?

I have a few wedding shoots coming up in the next few months, and i wonder if i could manage to shoot stills and video all with just the GH2.. if not i'll rely back on my old trusty Nikon D3 for stills, but i just don't look forward to the hassle and weight of that, as well as the GH2!

Anyone got any tips?

On Camera Settings question

I just recently bought a GH2 that came already hacked. Unfortunately it was hacked by the person before the person I got it off so we have lost track of what version of the Driftwood hack it is. I know it is working because I can already see I have additional ISO settings in Manual Movie mode.

My question is, what or where are the settings I should be using directly on my camera? I switched it over to C3 menu and when tried to record got an error back that my card was not fast enough (which it probably isn't, but getting a new one soon) so this leads me to believe that this is where the highest quality settings live but I still am unsure of what settings produce what results? Is Manual Movie mode just the standard camera mode?

Sorry if this lives on another thread or seems like a silly question, but I new to this whole hack thing and not having the background knowledge is bugging me.

Canon 100mm f2.0 FD for sale

I have a Canon FD 100mm f2.0 for sale. Everything about the lens in near perfect except for the front element which has a very subtle bit of fungus. I have had this lens for over 3 years and I can tell you the fungus has not grown in that time, if anything, it appears to be less visible than when I first purchased it. The focus ring is smooth and the aperture ring is nice a snappy.

Have used this for both photos and videos on the GH1 and GH2 with gorgeous results!

I use this with the Canon BT-52 lens hood (designed specifically for this lens) and get nice contrasty images (even without it). Took it to a couple camera shops that do lens repairs and they said being that it is only on the front element and all the others look flawless, that I should not worry about it as it will have little to no affect of image quality.

Anyways, I love this lens, I just need to cut back my lens collection since I travel and move a lot. Offer me a fair price and I will include a brand new BT-52 lens hood.

Would prefer to ship within the US, though will ship internationally. Paypal accepted.

So far, I'm just playing with video on my GH2, but I've found something curious while trying to learn to pull focus; the touchscreen seems to show moire whenever sharp details are in focus. On my screen, I see a sort of rainbow pattern where in-focus highlights should be. So far, this actually seems to be a reliable indicator of what's in focus. With catch-lights in eyes, along with numerous still scenes, I've reliably found that whatever was ringed with moire was perfectly in focus when examined after the fact...

Color shift mid recording

late afternoon indirect natural light, indoors. grain and noise was constant and pleasing. Color was great and faithful...

But: In the middle of the shoot (two and a half mins in) after a pink shirt appeared on 1/5th of the frame, the image turned greenish, specially on the skin tones Mids.

this samples are two frames apart. direct screenshots from quicktime with avc plugin for playback of mts file.

I've also noticed this almost a year ago in a shoot, using original firmware. In a scene where yellow was background and blue and pink elements appeared in the foreground while panning. kind of like the pink shirt that comes in and out of the frame.

In this case it never goes back to normal up to the end of the clip, up to 5 minutes, the shirt keeps coming on and off frame every 10 seconds.

Anyone noticed this? It looks like although everything is locked the codec is performing some kind of auto white balance adjustment?!

I'm aware of the possible color shift in the first few seconds after you start recording, but this is different.

I've posted this on another thread but it was out of place.

This is a perfect budget manual focus lens package to go with a GH2, AF100, FS100 or NEX camera. The glass is pristine and they all function flawlessly. Each lens is also already geared with zip tie focus gears and are ready for follow-focus attachment and operation.

I just finished shooting a feature film with these lenses on a GH2 with the Quantum 9b settings created by @driftwood and the images came out f-ing amazing. This is a truly beautiful set of very high quality glass. However, I'm purchasing a C300 package now, and these will not be adaptable to that camera... so they must go, sadly. Cinema 24p, best manual settings ?

I wonder does anyone else have similar problems with Cinema 24p mode manual settings ?
GH2 - pal version
Lens: 20mm 1.7 "pancake"
I tried:
Cinema 24p
Exposure M
aperture: 1.7
shutter speed: 1/50
iso: 160

if I don't pan camera it is all OK, but if I pan i get jerky (similar to fast motion experience,about 10% faster at least in my LCD monitor ...).
i get same on any exposure mode when using Cinema 24p

but in Creative Movie Mode I do not have these problems when using exposure in P mode ...

Any tips ?
