Currently, I have only created profiles for the 24H, 24L, and 720p60 SH settings, and I use Neat Video version 4. I'm not sure if these profiles will work on other versions, but they may.

If there is enough interest, I can begin to expand the profiles to support more video modes and various hacks beyond Moon T8.

I created a profile for each ISO setting, including secondary settings for the ISO bugged modes (up to 2500 ISO for those) ("clean" is normal, "dirty" is with the bug in case you forget to fix the problem and shoot with the ISO bug)

These profiles were created using the Smooth film mode at -2 -2 -2 -2, though they will probably still work with other modes. What is being picked up here is mostly sensor ISO noise since Moon T8's bitrate is so high.

The end result is that I have been able to recover about 1 - 1.5 stops of extra detail in the shadows on my shots as opposed to it looking like a total mess of noise. If you shoot at crazy high ISO settings, it can't make a shot at 12,800 ISO look like 200 ISO, but as long as your footage is reasonable, you can greatly expand the usable dynamic range of the camera and color grading is that much better.

These profiles should be used FIRST before doing any other processing such as grading, sharpening, scaling, or color correction. Etc...

The 1080p24 profiles seem to work fine on footage shot in variable mode, for example, if you use the 80% mode for slight slow motion.

Here is a link to an Imgur gallery showing what the profiles are capable of: Gallery

Are modern sensors "ISO-less"? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27486/are-modern-sensors-iso-less Tue, 07 Feb 2023 14:07:18 +0000 EspenB 27486@/talks/discussions Are modern sensors usually "ISO-less" in meaning that gain adjustments are done in the digital domain after ADC?

I was under the impression that there was some sort of analogue gain applied before the ADC, but that's perhaps only true back in the 1990's...

How to view ISO Metadata in GH2 AVCHD footage!? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1928/how-to-view-iso-metadata-in-gh2-avchd-footage Wed, 04 Jan 2012 06:14:30 +0000 Alexauwa 1928@/talks/discussions

Do you have any ideas? Does Adobe offer such a feature?

Looking forward to you replies.

In my most recent shoot I was using a 95mb/s Extreme Sandisk and 24H mode.

I played the video on my computer when I got home to find it looks grainy. I used 400 ISO throughout the entire shoot and according to my meter I was properly exposed.

Attached is a photo. I've seen shots from other people's moon t7 footage that are far more crisp. Any ideas?

A Few Questions About: Hacked Bitrates, Auto ISO, EV, Modes http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9493/a-few-questions-about-hacked-bitrates-auto-iso-ev-modes Wed, 29 Jan 2014 22:14:07 +0000 Heatshiver 9493@/talks/discussions I bought a GH2 mostly for the hacked patches. I have spent hours researching to try to learn what to do and how to use the camera for video purposes. I am hoping that someone can help answer a few questions as most of my information tends to originate from this site:

Setup - In order to achieve the higher bitrates I had to use M from the dial atop the GH2. The camera icon with the M would not allow this. The tradeoff was Auto ISO with M, and adjustable ISO with the camera icon with the M. I use mostly Canon FD lenses.

1a) Bitrates - I have tried a few hacks with varying success. The best I have got is about 100MB with Flow Motion v2.02, however, most of the shots I got with this hack seem to be from 70MB-90MB. I tried Flow Motion, Driftwood's Moon T7, and two Driftwood hacks (176MB & 220MB) from a pack made by the user Sohus on this forum.

Is it common to be well below the stated bitrate amounts?

1b) AVCHD vs MJPEG - I never seemed to get very high bitrates when using 1080i, despite the hacks stating to be much higher. They would range from 15MB-40MB. To achieve higher bitrates with Flow Motion, I used MJPEG which boosted them much higher.

Shouldn't I be achieving high bitrates with AVCHD?

2) Auto ISO - Whenever I use M (from PASM) the ISO would always be set to Auto ISO. I could adjust the ISO when using the camera icon mode (with the M), but then the bitrates would suffer. I tried changing the ISO before shooting, but Auto ISO would kick in no matter what.

How do I change the ISO while in M mode?

3) EV - I know that EV depends upon shutter, aperture, and ISO, but I can see the EV when I push the Display button so I was hoping there was still a way to change it.

Am I correct to assume that because I am using Canon FD lenses I cannot use EV? Even if using a Panasonic lens, how do I change the EV (I tried, but failed).

4) Modes - I have only been able to use the hacked bitrates - and only to a certain degree - by using M with MJPEG.

What modes should I be using to use the hacked patches? The camera icon with M? High Bitrate? 24P? 1080i?

Sorry for all the questions. I am not unhappy with the camera, but I really want to know why the bitrates are not working? And moreso, why the Auto ISO can't be changed (as I don't like the amount of noise it can introduce)? Thank you!

Even in bright daylight when i do some tests and i have something black in the video (dress, camera bag) even on ISO 400 it starts to get really big, ISO 800 almost unusable.

Anyone experiencing the same problem? Might be a faulty sensor from Panasonic? I am primarily shooting on Cine-D profile, no additional adjustments, but the problem is on Standard profile as well.

My iDynamic and iResolution is OFF.

I am really frustrated, I was expecting a better video that this noisy ants from GH4, anyone please help?

Iris Tweak vs ISO Tweak http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6528/iris-tweak-vs-iso-tweak Thu, 28 Mar 2013 05:54:25 +0000 PCortacans 6528@/talks/discussions (Vitaliy, I have no idea where to post this; sorry if this is not the right place)

I was reading the other day about de-clicking old Nikon lenses, and people's comments about how they'd like to slightly tweak the iris "on the fly" to adjust for minor light changes. Since I have a photographer background, the first thing that came to my mind is "Why would you want to do that? Doing so will change the depth of field!". Ok. Tweaking can be interpreted as "less than a click", that is, less than 1 stop (or 1/2 in some brands). But still, my question to you guys is "Why?" Is it because it is the only basic parameter (Aperture/SSpeed/ISO) that you can change on the fly, and not via camera menus? (You wouldn't want to change the SSpeed anyway.... And for the sake of this discussion, let's pretend we are on the less noisy side of the ISO values). What are the benefits of changing Iris? If you could decide to change Iris vs ISO (which takes me back to "Panasonic: Auto-ISO in Manual Movie Mode, por favor...!!!"), which one would you choose?

GH2 ISO noise bug at 320, 640, and 1250 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1280/gh2-iso-noise-bug-at-320-640-and-1250 Tue, 25 Oct 2011 22:00:03 +0000 balazer 1280@/talks/discussions
Switching to ISO 320: low noise from 400, 500, or sometimes 640; high noise from all others and from power off
Switching to ISO 640: low noise from 800, 1000, or 1250; high noise from all others and from power off
Switching to ISO 1250: low noise from 1600 or 2000; high noise from all others and from power off

I couldn't detect the bug when switching to any of the other ISO settings - if it's there, it's subtle. But for 320, 640, and 1250, it was unmistakable. Aside from the bug, I would say that none of the ISO levels seemed particularly more or less noisy than would be expected. I'd say to use whatever ISO level you need, being careful to avoid the bug.

Note that it is not sufficient to simply switch from any higher ISO to avoid the bug.

A good practice for ISO 320, 640, and 1250 would be to switch to the ISO setting 1/3 stop higher, and then back down. (i.e., 400 to 320, or 800 to 640, or 1600 to 1250). ]]>

UPDATE: lol I always end up finding answers to my problems, well as it turns out, I was testing the high iso feature with a 14-42 X lens and that was causing those lines, I slapped a manual lens with no IS and no electronics and now I see how clean my 3200 setting is, so people watch out with those Panny lenses :-)

I shot 10 seconds (which now might have been too long) at each ISO value, with the body cap on. Settings were:
- Driftwood's "GOPStoppa" GOP1 176mb hack.
- White balance at 5600K
- Shutter at 50

I've upped the mids in After Effects quite a bit.

The major surprise was 320, which looks awful... Shot a second one, but had the same results! Very surprising...

GH2 ETC-mode noise penalty http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1353/gh2-etc-mode-noise-penalty Thu, 03 Nov 2011 21:06:56 +0000 balazer 1353@/talks/discussions
The ETC noise penalty is: 2 and 2/3 stops. Specifically, the picture with ETC off at 3200 ISO looks about as noisy as the picture with ETC on at 500 ISO.

What I find interesting about this result is that increasing the sensitivity by a factor of 6.4 increases noise about as much as using 6.76 times as much sensor area (2.6^2) reduces noise. In other words, the GH2 is making very good use of those 16 million pixels when it downsamples to 1080p, giving nearly all the reduction in noise that you would hope to have from using a larger sensor area and correspondingly larger lens aperture.

Though there definitely is aliasing in the downsampled picture. The aliasing is not as bad as in the GH1's 1080p, or in the Canon 5dmkii, but it's there, and it makes you see things that you shouldn't be seeing. I can put together a little demonstration video if anyone is interested, but that's a separate topic.]]>

Anyone ever considered a Sony NEX-5N Hack?! http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1977/anyone-ever-considered-a-sony-nex-5n-hack Tue, 10 Jan 2012 09:01:56 +0000 Jonesy91 1977@/talks/discussions I'm a long time GH1/GH2 hacked user. I viewed the Christmas Shootout videos from Phillip Bloom, and I realized that the DSLR with the most cinematic potential aside from the GH2 is the NEX 5N. If someone could hack the NEX 5N to a higher bitrate, it could probably gain all the advantages of the GH2, while keeping or improving what it already does better. A list for perspective:

GH2 (Hacked): -Better Resolution -Higher ISO values -More native lenses -External Mic Jack -Swivel out LCD

NEX5N: -Better Low light Capability -Sensor has better crop factor -60p!( better Full HD slow motion potential) -Flatter Pictures Profiles

...and I sure I'm missing something for both, but it would be helpful if anyone could add anything else they know. I don't know which one has better AF/AF tracking for its lenses. Just thought that the Sony NEX 5N may, if hacked, have everything we have in the GH2, and more (of course with no mic jack). SOMEONE PLEASE HACK THE SONY NEX 5N, PLEASE!!!!

How do I get, even if there is less light, the most best possible result - here a clean picture? Do I have to raise ISO in order ta achieve better results? (Sensor need more light sensitvity to bring out details, can you shoot on too low ISO?) I always thought: lower IS0 value= better picture quality.

How do you handle night shoots, any tricks? Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm aware that during the recording you cannot change the ISO value, you have to set it before pressing the record button. However what I don't understand is whether this is due to the ISO limit removal within the hack or if this is just how the camera was designed? If I removed the ISO limit removal from the hack would I be able to change the ISO during recording? Or is it completely not an option regardless of whether I have a hack on the camera or not?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I've searched the web and I see so many different answers which confuse me lol

All looked right as ever in the ISO area in ( Creative Movie mode). You can select the ISO you want but when you
you press the recording button, the camera inmediatelly passes to AUTO ISO mode, so the ISO value you selected is not working anymore.
I perceived some strange behaivour as well. When I changed shutter speed to high values as 100/s and above to 4000/s
all looking right but just pressing recording button the picture brightness starts to oscilate constantly...

Hope this helps to the hack improvement!
THANKS again for your efforts guys!!
