Electric FF under $1k? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/18642/electric-ff-under-1k Wed, 03 Jan 2018 22:52:11 +0000 upwithmike 18642@/talks/discussions I'm looking for an electric FF that I can use with a thumbwheel on my gimbal and shoulder rig, wireless is great but wired is also fine. Would be nice if I had the option to add a wireless remote with wheel and hard stops at a later time.

There seem to be several on the horizon, like the Tilta Nucleus-M and Nucleus-N, Zhiyun's mechanical FF, and the Filmpower Nebula FF all sound great but when are any of them actually going to be available? I'm also looking at some of the Ikan and Redrock FF systems, but they're a little outside of my budget. Any others I should be aware of?

FS: Genus Bravo Follow Focus http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9826/fs-genus-bravo-follow-focus Mon, 10 Mar 2014 04:21:41 +0000 Illusionist_Films 9826@/talks/discussions Hi everybody,

I am selling my Genus Bravo Follow Focus. It has done a good job over the last years but has now been replaced by a newer version.

The dampening fluid of the FF was replaced recently and it turns buttery smooth now. The only drawback is that it has a backlash of about 20 degrees when changing focus direction. I assume this is caused by a problem inside the gear box that could probably been solved by someone with good fine mechanics knowledge. The Follow Focus is built like a tank and is in a very good condition aside from some marks and spots around the rod mount.

I'm based in Germany and I'm asking 200€ incl. shipping anywhere in EU or 250$ + shipping for anywhere else in the world. If you've questions please send PM.

Sony to release full frame NEX body and new micro-four-thirds camera http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5163/-sony-to-release-full-frame-nex-body-and-new-micro-four-thirds-camera Sun, 11 Nov 2012 12:00:13 +0000 tetakpatak 5163@/talks/discussions Recently I've spent some time with acquaintance of mine who allegedly has held in his hands prototype of the full frame nex body some months ago. He got this opportunity through the third person, who is very closely related to Sony. The same person has reported during this meeting that Sony also plans to enter soon into the MFT world. My source of information is reliable, I will not uncover any further information about that.

Personally, I didn't care about the MFT information, it wouldn't surprize me at all if Sony would try to get piece of Panasonic's cake on the market. It was anyway just a rumor, unapproved information as my friend didn't see it.

But I would say the news about the new FF sensor in the mirrorless NEX body is quite sensational. It sounds to me also as Sony's very logical next step: just recently Sony unveiled its FF camera with fixed lens (RX1) and also FF interchangeable lens body camcorder. Sony learns and produces already now FF and also APS-C sensors which belong to the best on the world (in Nikon D800 / NEX-7, respectively). As release date I heard "as soon as possible as Sony desperatly wants to be the first one (?)"

Such a release would have many consequences. Sony's E-bayonet mount provides the possibility to use almost all lenses ever made, just like "our" beloved MFT cameras. The new FF NEX would ceirtanly not be cheap, but probably it would still cost considerably less than Leica M. So it will have enough customers. I belive that the prices for the venerable old good lenses would be pushed quite a bit upwards. By the way: my own experience about using old lenses on the newest high-end digital bodies is quite good: the most of my best old AiS Nikkors which were great on the 24×36mm film are also great on the D800. Nikon's recommendation to use only the newest expensive lenses is just a bull.... except the true that bad Nikkors still look just the same bad on the D800 like ever before :-)

If this whole FF NEX comes true, my speculation is probably 24MP sensor for start model followed by 36MP in the next step etc. It wouldn't surprize me at all if Sony after having its fingers already deeply into the pockets of consumer and professional domains now attacks also into the semi-pro world. Orwell's "1984" is getting true in the world of eletronics......

Just writing to say I bought the Lanparte FF02 through the deal offered here and it is great. Arrived in a week and everything was just as advertised. It took a bit of time to get things set up with my rails and some small Nikon primes, but it was easy to flip the gear around so that it fit with my setup. Focusing is smooth and there is very little give in the setup. I highly recommend this product and give thanks to Vitaliy for saving me a big bucks from the price in other places.

Question about FOV and DOF in relation to M43 and metabones speedbooster http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6705/question-about-fov-and-dof-in-relation-to-m43-and-metabones-speedbooster Tue, 16 Apr 2013 07:11:12 +0000 andrevanberlo 6705@/talks/discussions I've seen a questions in the speedbooster topic and saw a similar question in a DPreview thread.

"Has anyone heard if there will be a Speed Booster for m43 LENSES on m43 bodies"

people say it can't be done because the m43 lens is built to cover a m43 sensor and this does seem logical. However (and i'm probably thinking way off here) the m43 has a cropfactor. FF does not. I always thought the FF lenses were so expensive because the entire lens has to be perfect as the entire image falls on the sensor. Where a lens designed for a cropfactor camera needs to be sharp mostly in center and not on the outside as that will not hit the sensor anyway.

So my thought was, if a GH3 has a cropfactor of about 2X, doesn't that mean that part of the total image is cropped? If so then i don't think that question for a m43-m43 speedbooster is such a strange question. As only part of the image actually hits the sensor.

So a speedbooster (i know, probably impossible) would then widen the FOV and increase DOF on m43 lenses and decrease the F-stop.

Off course there will be a lot of vignetting but still when i buy a 50mm lens for m43 that 50mm is what it would be on a full frame camera, we get a cropped version on the m43 camera but the full 50mm image has to be there for us to crop our image from.

In this video they do it the other way around: cropsensor-lens on FF camera

Could someone please explain where i'm wrong in my thinking?

FF on Panasonic lenses with variable focus speed/change ratio http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4058/ff-on-panasonic-lenses-with-variable-focus-speedchange-ratio Fri, 27 Jul 2012 05:57:12 +0000 janis 4058@/talks/discussions I just got my first FF and found out something that didn't bother me before. On Panasonic standard lenses focus distance change varies with the speed the focus ring is moved. So there is no point in putting some marks on FF and then trying to create repeatable focus movement. I have seen some references to this problem but is there some workaround?

Image shift while focusing with FF http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3360/image-shift-while-focusing-with-ff Sat, 26 May 2012 12:15:21 +0000 krotal 3360@/talks/discussions Hi, Are you guys aware of image shifting while focusing with FF ? It seems like the lens moves because of the torque applied to it, causing the image to move. I got a gini FF, some nikon & yashica lenses, but the problem appears with every lenses... Just to be clear I'm not speaking about "breathing" but some kind of unwanted movement from the lens while focusing. Is there a solution or is it a well-know issue with still lenses ?

Thanks in advance

Seems nice. You can't mount gear on both sides from gearbox, but it seems to be fixed better with less play.
If you are bored with price hike and shipping delays with other follow focus model, it can be very good deal.

Electronical follow focus via USB on GH1/2? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/614/electronical-follow-focus-via-usb-on-gh12 Sun, 07 Aug 2011 04:37:27 +0000 Psyco 614@/talks/discussions
I just came across http://www.pchood.com/USB%20Follow%20Focus and as I'm using the Olympus 14-35mm 4/3 lens it would be very handy to control the fokus with a device like this. The Olympus has a quite good focus motor and a mechanical FF is sometimes not the best solution (e.g. on a steadycam you don't want a mechanical FF).

Vitaliy, do you think it is possible to enable such an option for the USB port on the GH1/2?

If such an option is not present in the camera software at all, that would be to much to rewrite it - but maybe this function is already there in a service mode. Most cameras can be controlled via USB for testing in factory or when send in for repair. So, all that might to be done is enable this function in normal user mode (and of course get a device like in the link which can controll GH-cam).
