I can add/supply some pictures if there's any interest....

GH2 - Wise choise for the future? Speedbooster and Canon EF lenses http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14845/gh2-wise-choise-for-the-future-speedbooster-and-canon-ef-lenses Mon, 21 Mar 2016 11:01:50 +0000 testering 14845@/talks/discussions Hi, I hope I got the correct category for this thread. A friend and I share a GH2 with a lot of equipment like crane, tripod, follow focus, shoulder rig, slider etc. We need an advice for lenses we also could use in the future on a newer camera. GH2 is getting old, has to much noise, is not weather resistent and so on.

GH4, a Canon or a Blackmagic camera could be the choice in the future. As far as I figured out if we choose the path with Canon EF lenses we can use them on MFT cameras with Metabones Speedbooster EF to MFT Ultra 0.71x.

  1. Would you advise to use Canon EF mount lenses with Speedbooster instead of native MFT mount lenses? Brands like Rokinon offer mounts in different variations so my plan would be to buy Rokinon lenses as EF mounts and put them on the Speedbooster on MFT devices.
  2. What about powering the speedbooster? Do I need external power source on GH2 if I want to use electronic lenses?
  3. Could you also recommend some wide angle lenses for our GH2?
  4. What do we shoot? Nothing special just basic stuff like nature, streets, indoor, ...

Thanks in advance

Commlite and similar electronic adapters http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13764/commlite-and-similar-electronic-adapters Sun, 20 Sep 2015 22:20:22 +0000 joethepro 13764@/talks/discussions I just received the "Signstek" Commlite EF to Sony E electronic adapter. It pretty much works as expected (terrible AF performance, functional aperture control, havent tested stabilization yet) with one caveat. It seems that the depth dimension of the adapter is too small because Ive lost alot of close focus ability with the lens and it focuses way past infinity. The focus scale is all messed up, pointing to poor design of the thickness of the adapter. At the 2 foot mark its already focusing at infinity. Ive had this issue with pretty much every other (dumb) adapter Ive used, so Im not very surprised. Still sucks, though.

This is with my Tokina 11-20, by the way.

GH2 with Metabones SB http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13038/gh2-with-metabones-sb Sat, 23 May 2015 13:34:59 +0000 club_irate 13038@/talks/discussions I got the Metabone Canon EF Lens to Micro Four Thirds Speed Booster which i wish to pair with my next purchase, Sigma 18-35 1.8 lens onto a Panny GH2 body.

Does the Speedbooster feature activate on the GH2 only with a external third-party 5 Volt MicroUSB power supply?

If yes, could anyone who has experience in it share a tried and tested third party 5 volt MicroUSB brand i would need to buy for the same?

Please feel free to share any other views on MB SB+ GH2 setup.

FS: Leica R lens set Cine-modded EF mounts http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13015/fs-leica-r-lens-set-cine-modded-ef-mounts Wed, 20 May 2015 16:18:33 +0000 josh_chiara 13015@/talks/discussions Leica r lens set from 21mm to 90mm

All the glass is in great condition (I have included pictures of the front and rear elements of every lens) and scratch free. There is some small dust particles on the glass, but they are all external. No internal particles of note.

All lenses are in good to great condition. The only lens that has any issues at all is the 21mm f4. The issue is very minor. The front of the lens where the filter thread is has a small amount of movement front to back. It doesn't effect anything performance wise or visually with the lens. Just want to be thorough in my descriptions.

All lenses have focus gears installed with 82mm diameters.

The 35-70mm has two gears installed. One for zoom and one for focus. The focus gear is huge to accommodate the telescoping of the lens as it zooms in and out. The gear will catch a follow focus gear through the entire range of focus and zoom.

The 28mm doesn't have the gear or the front lens sticker yet, but the gear is on its way, and it will be installed as soon as it arrives. It will be the same as the rest of the set. I will re-upload the pics of the 28mm lens as soon as the gear gets here.

Leica R 21mm f4 ser no. 2614663 Leica R 28mm f2.8 ser no. 3039902 Leica R 35-70mm f3.5 ser no. 3285508 Leica R 50mm f2 ser no. 2923077 Leica R 90mm f2.8 ser no. 2537961

$3000.00 for the set. I can throw in my Storm case for the lenses for another $100.

PM me if you are interested. Payment through Paypal is preferred so we are both protected by Paypal's policies.

Birger Engineering still exist? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10888/birger-engineering-still-exist- Sat, 26 Jul 2014 05:12:08 +0000 elementalracer 10888@/talks/discussions Does anyone here know if Birger Engineering still exists? Their website looks like it hasn't been updated in over a year. I have a Birger Canon EF mount for a RED ONE that needs to be serviced and I'm not sure where to send it off to? I sent them an email just to try but I have yet hear back from them.

Anyone out there happen to have any dealings with them recently? Or possibly know of another place one could send a lens mount like this to get repaired?

Thanks guys!

Contax lenses to Canon EF + Speed Booster http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10258/contax-lenses-to-canon-ef-speed-booster Sat, 26 Apr 2014 09:37:21 +0000 spencerb 10258@/talks/discussions I have a Panasonic GH3 and am investing in some old Zeiss Contax Yashica glass. I intend to use the Metabones Speed Booster with them but also want to keep my options open in the future.

  • Safe Option 1: Buy Metabones Speed Booster in Contax/Yashica -> Micro Four Thirds mount. Connect C/Y Zeiss glass. Profit.

  • Theoretical Option 2: Buy Metabones Speed Booster in Canon EF -> Micro Four Thirds Mount. Adapt Zeiss C/Y glass to Canon EF mount. This allows me to share lenses with Canon bodies if necessary and also mount standard Canon EF glass to the Speed Booster as well. With the limited range of wide angle Zeiss C/Y glass available this also could make things easier. It saves me buying multiple $400 Speed Boosters.

Question is: Is there any reason NOT to do option 2? I know it will allow a greater chance of error in the adaptors, but will the C/Y -> Canon EF even mount to a Canon EF -> MFT Speed Booster? Is this entire idea completely stupid or have I stumbled on accidental brilliance?

THANKS!

Birger Mount for AF100 (and GH2) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/125/birger-mount-for-af100-and-gh2 Sun, 22 May 2011 16:00:29 +0000 Alex 125@/talks/discussions
here is the newsletter:

At NAB Birger demonstrated functioning concept models of a new lens mount system for both the Sony NEX-FS100 and the Panasonic AF-100 cameras.  These concept systems demonstrated electronic control of the focus and iris on Canon EF-mount lenses.  This email is an update on those products specifically for the Broadcast market.  Updates for the Industrial and Scientific; and Military, Security and Surveillance markets will be coming in the near future.

The AF-100 version of the product will come first, followed soon after by the Sony PMW-F3, Sony NEX-FS100 and the Arri Alexa.  As we did the initial work for these cameras, it became clear that we needed to make some changes to our new generation of lens control platform, to economically develop and manufacture these additional variants.

It became clear from our conversations at NAB that an economical (and unobtrusive) wireless solution was important.  We will be coming out with a hot-shoe mounted radio receiver (approximately 30mm cube) that will not require a separate power connection or battery, to remain powered from the lens mount, even during lens changes.  Fortunately we realized the importance of this module prior to releasing the first adapters, as it would not have been possible without some small changes.

This talk of change generally raises questions of price and schedule.  While we are adding significant flexibility to the system, I am happy to say there will be negative effect on price.  We are finalizing some of the design and manufacturing issues to get ready for a volume release of the AF-100 EF-mount Adapter, and when we have the last details worked through, we will announce that we are ready to begin full scale production.  At this point we will first show the final version of the product, announce the dealers, and be about two weeks away from volume shipments.

Those that have expressed (and wish to express) interest in selling our products should know that we feel it most important to attend to the product related issues first.  We will be releasing more information on the dealer program, contracts and a closing date for orders for the initial production build in the next few weeks.  We will not be accepting any deposits, orders or payments until the product is ready for production - and we have done a public demonstration.  All orders at that point will require prepayment, so we can fairly allocate inventory worldwide.  We are planning an initial build of 1000 units for the AF100/EF product.

We have an active beta program for the AF100 and the FS100 products, and have been floating hardware on some very large (and some not so large) productions.  This has offerred us invaluable ergonomic information on the forth coming remotes, as well as access to footage and real world testing.  In the coming weeks we expect to be able to talk about prductions using both the AF100 and FS100 focus systems.

We are excited for the future of Birger in the Broadcast industry.  We are even more excited to get this product released in the short term.  There is no one that wants these new products out in the field more than I do.

Regards,
Erik.
