LX100 dead, quest to replace the little one. Cheap usefull camera replacement. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24068/lx100-dead-quest-to-replace-the-little-one.-cheap-usefull-camera-replacement. Thu, 09 Jul 2020 20:33:16 +0000 RoadsidePicnic 24068@/talks/discussions My LX100 is dying. Cant blame it after 6 years of service and lots of abuse. The lens started to get struck, lots of dust in sensor, I opened the thing and cleaned it a bit, put some white grease in the lens carriage (why they dont put it in factory to start with? why run it dry?), its better now but the lens motor still weak. Obviously they charge a hundred bucks for a little half a dozen dolar eletric motor.

Thing is, maybe is time to change the gear, so I'm doing some research and collecting info into an upgrade path/replacement here.

Scope:

  • personal camera

  • 4K30p or better

  • 2k60p or better

  • good bitrate, decent quality, don't mind raw

  • will not dump loads of money into it, ideally $800 fully operational

  • can make pro work, useful in-camera tools (yes LX100 was pretty capable, not talking about Ale$$$xa here)

  • wifi, stopmotion, timelapse, control app

  • hdmi not important but a plus

  • uses cheap media, cheap to stabilize and grip, minimally solid, will not sudenlly stop working on location, will not fry on mist, etc

EKEN H8 PRO/PLUS/H8s - True 4K Actioncam for 120$ http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16535/eken-h8-proplush8s-true-4k-actioncam-for-120 Fri, 03 Mar 2017 04:29:06 +0000 fatpig 16535@/talks/discussions This cam is pretty cool. IMX 117 Sony sensor (used on GoPro 3) and true 4k30p , as well as a load of other good framerates. It supposedly has the same shape as the gopro and is therefore compatible with all accessories. But it comes with every accessory you could imagine already included ( 20 pieces or so) Here is a comparison of the different models: http://elproducente.com/eken-h9-h8-h8-pro-h8-plus/

And here is a test vs The Xiaomi Yi 2:

I ordered my H8 Plus (with 720p240 and 1080p60 stabilized) for 119$ on banggood. There is a "ProTune" mod in the works here: https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/eken-h8-pro-finally-real-4k.21605/page-2

Adding a 36$ 90°FOV lens, and some higher bitrates, this thing is a brilliant bang for the buck! Anyone have any experience with it?

Cheapest Custom Ratio Field monitor? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14010/cheapest-custom-ratio-field-monitor Sat, 31 Oct 2015 16:53:59 +0000 redimp 14010@/talks/discussions Hi guys, I am looking for a way to preview my anamorphic footage on BMPCC and am looking for the cheapest external monitor with user-defined ratio.

I do not care about any other features, I just want it to be around 7'' or 10'' and able to produce 3.55:1 anamorphic or 1:1 square image.

It can be plasticky, heavy, I don't mind chinese-grade quality, just need it to be able to produce ratios that I mentioned above and fit BMPCC.

Main issue is the price point – I am on a very tight budget.

Thanks!

Cheap HMI lights - Made in germany http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9342/cheap-hmi-lights-made-in-germany Tue, 14 Jan 2014 04:32:02 +0000 klem007 9342@/talks/discussions I found myself in the market for an other lamp. After selling some of my redheads i planned on getting a second arri lamp but ended up getting something better ?

It amazes me how little talk there is around these lamps on the internet and i think that our forum could be a good place to point people to this option.

The light i bought was the Hedler Dx15. Its a quality HMi light with built in balast. Weighs about 2-3 kilo and gives about a 650w output for 150w consumption. I love the handle on the back which i find missing on the arri's when they get hot. And the build quality is on par with what you'd expect from german built material.

I bought the cheapest version being the lamp without fresnel and this one you can get for 450 euro. Fresnel or higher powerd versions cost more.

Last thing i bought was the umbrella holder which is a cheap way to modify your light.

Advice in in the search for a cheap laptop for LightRoom http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9469/advice-in-in-the-search-for-a-cheap-laptop-for-lightroom- Mon, 27 Jan 2014 13:19:33 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 9469@/talks/discussions For mobility I need a laptop. My budget is low, no more than $ 400 and as much as $ 500.

Lightroom is a dragon that literally eats my computer, when I do any operation as simple as it is, I can not do anything else or is very slow, for example if I have an audio or video is choppy. When I export a photo from LR lasts 1-2 minutes, if I want to export to more than 3 times the memory will not let me. As a second option I like to operate Premiere or Vegas editing videos GH2, although this is much to ask.

Im know that budget I cant find a fast computer, but at least I did not delay much.

This chart is my current laptop. The processor is obsolete, but 4GB of RAM is acceptable but far from ideal today.

PS: My experience with HP is not good, do not think it repeat with this brand.

Thanks!

Second body to compliment GH2 - Eos M or else http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/8262/second-body-to-compliment-gh2-eos-m-or-else Fri, 27 Sep 2013 21:41:24 +0000 cmountman 8262@/talks/discussions Hello

I have a GH2 with the following lenses:

Sigma 30mm F1.4 Sigma 18-50 F2.8 Panasonic 14mm and 20mm

I also have a Shneider 18-90 F2 lens which I am having made into a Four Thirds lens

I am looking for a cheap second body that will give me footage that will compliment the hacked GH2

I am unsure of which Panasonic Body with hack will best compliment the GH2

Also is the new G5 and G6 planned for hacks? If so they would be perfect choices?

I am also considering the Eos M with its f2 lens although I am concerned that the h.264 format is being replaced next year and if this will make this camera obsolete or if they will offer the new improved codec/format a firmware upgrade?

If anybody has any thoughts on this I would be grateful to know your opinions

GH3 is still too expensive

Thanks

Cheap and Good Lighting Idea http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/570/cheap-and-good-lighting-idea Wed, 03 Aug 2011 02:44:03 +0000 stoney 570@/talks/discussions a LED light, I learned the LED light isn't really good with a barn door. When a barn door is narrowed, the LED light gave rows of lights with discrete light strength. Looking weird and unpleasant.

Fresnel light can give more natural looking focused light. No discrete rows of light. Look at this aliexpress deal. It comes with a softbox, too. Awesome!!! It looks heavy, but I already have portable Z96 and CL-LED256. This is primarily for indoor studio work.

http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/465889231-300W-500W-Fresnel-Tungsten-Light-As-Arri-Softbox-wholesalers.html

There are plenty of reviews about it or its likes, and most buyers seem happy with made-in-china Fresnel light.

I hope we can get a group discount. I'd get it if we can get close to $200. But I'm not a good negotiator... Can someone help please?]]>

Zoom H1 vs Rode Videomic http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2095/zoom-h1-vs-rode-videomic Mon, 23 Jan 2012 18:59:33 +0000 sprinke 2095@/talks/discussions I'm just learning about this stuff, so be gentle with me, please.

Thinking about improving audio with my GH2. Originally I thought that for low-budget, okay, cheap (just a hobby for me), that the Rode Videomic would be a nice option.

Then I start reading here about audio recorders, and take a look at the Zoom H1. Seems pretty neat, and cheaper than the Videomic!

Now I wonder, why would anyone choose the Videomic over the H1, for a budget option? If I understand things correctly, the H1 offers more capability. You could mount it on the camera and run line-in to camera AND have headphone monitoring (with a splitter), or you could take it off the camera altogether for interviews, or attach a separate mic to it like a lav mic. Am I correct? Am I missing something?

Cheap Filmcity Shoulder support Rig (FC-10W) or alternatives http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5602/cheap-filmcity-shoulder-support-rig-fc-10w-or-alternatives Fri, 28 Dec 2012 15:08:28 +0000 glebnagorny 5602@/talks/discussions Hi,

I am planning to buy my first shoulder rig for GH2. I don't have much budget and I don't need anything fancy. Just something that would work without major issues with a possible upgrade to follow focus and matte box later on.

I found Filmcity Shoulder support Rig (FC-10W), which seems like a good option for a cheap price - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Filmcity-Shoulder-Support-Mount-Rig-For-DV-DSLR-camera-Follow-focus-matte-Box-/370723716620?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item5650dafe0c

There are some videos with it on youtube -

and

There is also an option with 1kg weight, which costs about £20 pounds more - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FILMCITY-Shoulder-Support-Mount-Rig-Rods-with-weights-For-DSLR-Video-Matte-box-/370722001848?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5650c0d3b8 I could not find any cheaper solutions with weight, do you think it is worth extra 20£?

Does anyone have experience with it? What do you think about this rig? I am also considering alternatives, like "beginners rig" in CatchIT deals and Fotga rig (to which I can buy most of the parts separetely and which would be more expensive, starting with this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DP500-II-Rail-System-15mm-Rod-Rig-Baseplate-Support-DSLR-Camcorder-Mattebox-5D-2-/330794357528?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d04e15318 )

Thanks.

looking for cheap Studio Monitor 1080p advice http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5449/looking-for-cheap-studio-monitor-1080p-advice Tue, 11 Dec 2012 05:00:34 +0000 fatpig 5449@/talks/discussions Hello guys,

I am currently using an old 15" LCD monitor as my preview device, which is not very accurate. I do not have the need for a real studio monitor. what bothers me about this solution is the black level.

Today, still all TVs start with black at 16 of 255 shades as opposed to 0 of 255 shades in a PC monitor. (This is my understanding, correct me if I am wrong) At least, What looks grey on a PC monitor is often times still black on a TV.

I was thinking about getting a small 1080p TV as a monitor, but maybe you have better suggestions.

I am looking for a small Monitor for my working space (maybe around 20") that has TV black levels. Or would you suggest changing that in the graphics card config...?

Adapting integrated (motorized) zoom lenses from super8mm cine camera? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5247/adapting-integrated-motorized-zoom-lenses-from-super8mm-cine-camera Mon, 19 Nov 2012 18:26:14 +0000 tomek123 5247@/talks/discussions Hello,

I found some VERY good offers for super8 film cameras like these:

http://www.super8data.com/database/cameras_list/cameras_revue/cameras_revue.htm

http://www.super8camera.com/netsearch.php?sq=canon+518&page=2

http://www.super8data.com/database/cameras_list/cameras_nizo/nizo_156xl.htm

http://super8arena.com/braun-nizo-4080-p-188.html

Unfortunately, I heard from the sellers that they have unchangeable lenses.

As I understood the zoom distance of this lenses can be changed from a button on the camera body, so probably it would be difficult to take off the lens from the cam... One of the sellers told me the lens has electric control of the zoom and the aperture is changed also from the camera.

I don't know anything about this, but these zoom lenses are pretty fast and VERY cheap (Revue Reflex Zoom f: 1.7 \ F: 8-40 mm and Canon 9.5 - 47.5mm f/1.8 and especially Schneider Macro-Variogon 1,4 / 7 - 80 mm from the Brown cameras) .

I think they could be useful for GH2/3 with a ETC mode, so I wondered if someone already achieved some adaptation of this lens type to micro 4/3?

Thank you in advance.

Quite a progress, as for --- (all shipped!) you get quite good camera base, handel, five rods, thumbscrews are all metal.
Normally around $80 is lowest price for this baseplate only.

Link removed, as it is not actual.

Btw GreatPhoto ebay seller, is just bitch full of lies. Never buy anything from him.

If you want one and only first rig, I still think advanced rig from our deals is better, as it is offset and handles are much better.
