Any recommendation on the workflow for broadcast. The sound source is a mono microphone.

At the moment I start by converting in stereo and then normalising it; I am struggling with the effects as which one to use for compression.

The sound I record is usually interviews in public places which sometimes has background noise. And on some occasions I record live street music.

I'd love to hear your views. ( I am a newbie with audition and sound engineering)

Thanks, Hakura

LX 100 as an A Camera http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13255/lx-100-as-an-a-camera Mon, 22 Jun 2015 09:35:17 +0000 kitano 13255@/talks/discussions It has been many months now since the release.

On paper it has the perfect specs. fast Leica lens, 4K video with 100Mbps bitrate to name a few.

The question in my mind is - Can it really be used as a A camera for broadcast quality documentary production? (I am not concerned about the audio)

Your views?

Thanks

Ptool settings for Documentaries? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10925/-ptool-settings-for-documentaries Wed, 30 Jul 2014 10:03:23 +0000 kitano 10925@/talks/discussions Hi, I am sure this has been asked many times, since the fantastic people involved keep updating the settings with releases, it's hard to know which one is the latest and best to use.

I would like to know what which latest Ptool setting is recommended for broadcast ready/approved documentaries.

thanks in advance. H Kitano

Broadcast-safe video http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9839/broadcast-safe-video Mon, 10 Mar 2014 16:37:09 +0000 vstardust 9839@/talks/discussions What are broadcast safe limits for digital video dedicated for web distribution? As I have understood (correct me if I'm wrong) broadcast safe limits for minimum black level and maximum white level are mainly considered as analog displaying and broadcasting issues.

Alexis van Hurkman states in his Color Correction Handbook that "For purposes of color correction you can ignore analog NTSC video requirements for a black signal level of 7.5 IRE, because that is an analog issue that video output interfaces typically take care of during output."

In other chapter he says that "Maximum preferred white value for most broadcasters is 235, 235, 235, which sits about 93 percent when analyzed using a Waveform Monitor."

Should I use broadcast safe limits and what are they? Googling gives me incoherent information. Thank you.

Calling Brighton & Sussex p-v'ers: BBC South East Today broadcast 'BOAT' - from hacked GH2 & GH3! http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7252/calling-brighton-sussex-p-vers-bbc-south-east-today-broadcast-boat-from-hacked-gh2-gh3 Fri, 14 Jun 2013 14:12:49 +0000 driftwood 7252@/talks/discussions A dear theatre-maker mate of mine recently passed away and his dying wish was for Brighton to have its very own Open Air Theatre (BOAT). The BBC have just broadcast today (check BBC iPlayer later) on South East Today parts of the following Vimeo link (they downloaded the footage from Vimeo :-) )

I made this spur-of-the-moment video (totally unprepared) in his last get together on Brighton & Hove's Lawns near the seafront. And it was great to see the Beeb use parts of it (and that the Panasonic GHx cameras are absolutely fine for broadcast!). Adrian's words are emphatic and amazing for a man in so much pain - he died only a few days later from his disease, pancreatic cancer. He only found out he had it two months ago and I just can't imagine him not being around anymore. He was very brave to the end.

Anyway, I'm mainly calling out to local personal-viewers who are invited to come along and lend support to this Sunday's BOAT fundraiser at Brighton's Dome theatre for a night of comedy. There are still a few tickets left and all proceeds go towards the building of the theatre. If you can't make it, please try and support it or donate via the Facebook link on the Vimeo page. Your help will turn an old and secluded bowling lawn into an amazing open air theatre scheduled for opening next May - and part of the Brighton Festival. Expects lots of classic Shakespeare performances, local theatre, open-air film screenings, and even live streaming events.

If you do make it down to the event - come and say hello to me!

Many thanks,

Nick

Gear pitch on ENG Broadcast lenses http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6345/gear-pitch-on-eng-broadcast-lenses Wed, 06 Mar 2013 14:42:51 +0000 fosterchen 6345@/talks/discussions I know the gearing on ENG broadcast lenses have a denser pitch than the standard mod 0.8 found on cine lenses, but what is the actual pitch of the gears? Is it the same on all brands of ENG lenses (Canon, Fujinon mainly), or are there variations? This topic includes lenses with B4, B3, C-mount, and 1/2" bayonet mounts.

Good 1080/60i hack to match a AG-HMC80 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5282/good-108060i-hack-to-match-a-ag-hmc80 Fri, 23 Nov 2012 14:58:35 +0000 cuspclub 5282@/talks/discussions Hello all. I'm brand new to the GH2 scene. Great site!

I'm using a GH2 as a wide-shot B cam for a Christmas Parade next weekend. I will be doing a multi-cam edit in Premiere using the footage of the GH2 and the tripod panning shots of a Panasonic AG-HMC80 using the PH mode: Approx. 21 Mbps (VBR).

I noticed the stock 1080/60i preset in the GH2 only goes to 17Mbps. I know there's a ton of talk about progressive hacks, but is there a good hack that spans properly and gives me a higher quality and bit rate for 1080/60i footage?

The show is being produced for broadcast on a local cable channel.

Thanks, Nick

May be best online broadcast solution http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3177/may-be-best-online-broadcast-solution Thu, 10 May 2012 18:55:32 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 3177@/talks/discussions Today we're excited to launch Hangouts On Air to Google+ users worldwide. So if you have something to say—as an aspiring artist, a global celebrity, or a concerned citizen—you can now go live in front of a global audience. With just a few clicks, you’ll be able to:

  • Broadcast publicly. By checking "Enable Hangouts On Air," you can broadcast your live hangout—from the Google+ stream, your YouTube channel or your website—to the entire world.
  • See how many viewers you’ve got. During your broadcast, you can look inside the hangout to see how many people are watching live.
  • Record and re-share. Once you're off the air, we’ll upload a public recording to your YouTube channel, and to your original Google+ post. This way it's easy to share and discuss your broadcast after it's over.

Via: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2012/05/google-hangouts-on-air-broadcast-your.html#!/2012/05/google-hangouts-on-air-broadcast-your.html

I think it'll be very interesting solution that'll be used on many sites soon.

Need help with 24p footage for ntsc broadcast (converting) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2471/need-help-with-24p-footage-for-ntsc-broadcast-converting Sat, 03 Mar 2012 11:53:25 +0000 RoyalCode_GH260D 2471@/talks/discussions Apologies if this has been asked already, I tried looking through the posts but didnt really find what i was looking for. I have my very first commercial shoot for a friend to be broadcasted locally and have no clue what I need to do. I'm using driftwood's orion v4b and was wondering about the workflow and steps to convert 24p footage correctly for it to air properly. I'm guessing i need to use a 3:2 pulldown for it to be (30p)? but i dont know how convert or what i need to do first, as im using Premiere CS5/AE. I'd rather do the conversion myself than giving someone the files to convert as they might not do it correctly. Thanks for any help.

Broadcast Monitor for Color Correction vs Affordable Alternatives http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2031/broadcast-monitor-for-color-correction-vs-affordable-alternatives Mon, 16 Jan 2012 21:05:42 +0000 qwerty123 2031@/talks/discussions Here's a question that I think many in the video and indie-filmmaking community don't have a straightforward and analytical answer to....:

QUESTION===> If your video / film content is not aimed at TV distribution but only for the web and also film-festivals, how crucial is it to have a broadcast monitor for color correction? Are there good, affordable (less than $1,500 or abouts) alternatives to a professional broadcast monitor that give nearly as good results in color critical work? Is there a good source of info on this?

What about a monitor like this: http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa271w-bk

(Although even that is a bit pricey...)
