What the title says, as Tim Dashwood has joint the Apple Stark, all of his stuff (working under the FxFactory) is now released free

His 360VR Toolbox used to sell for over $1,000. If you produce or are thinking of making 360 videos then this is a great pack of plugins.

Music video on GH2 (FlowMotion) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11588/music-video-on-gh2-flowmotion Sat, 18 Oct 2014 14:41:17 +0000 hempo22 11588@/talks/discussions My director's cut of a music video I did last year. The artist ran me over completely in post and the official video is (in my opinion) at best at the level of a rough cut, she didn't even want color correction. VFX was also out the window.

So here is my intended version of the video that we agreed upon. Shot on GH2 with Flowmotion and Nikkor AI and AI-S lenses, edited in FCPX and graded in Resolve.

GH2 & Focussing - Auto Focus & Manual Focus Tips http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1748/gh2-focussing-auto-focus-manual-focus-tips Thu, 15 Dec 2011 10:32:15 +0000 driftwood 1748@/talks/discussions
Methods:
1. Start in AFS (Auto Focus Single) mode and turn off facial recognition & auto tracking in menus.
2. Switch to AFS and in menu turn off Continuous Auto Focus. You can now change focus only when you depress the shutter button half-way down. It will keep this focus setup unti you hold down the shutter button half-way down again. This works whilst recording.
3. Configure Custom Menu Settings AF/AE Lock to AF/AE & AF/AE Lock Hold to 'On'. When you now press the AF/AE Lock on the camera it will focus and lock both AF and AE until pressed again.
4. Whist in AFS recording, lock your focus then switch to Manual Focus and continue your own focussing.
5. Aiding focus: Toggle between Normal View and Magnified View by switching to Manual Focus mode and press & hold the Q Menu button then press 'Set' to assign a fn button for the switching.

Please, by all means, discuss your best methods below.

Element 3D - AE Plugin http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3845/element-3d-ae-plugin Mon, 09 Jul 2012 19:20:44 +0000 skiandbike 3845@/talks/discussions Launches tomorrow and a very ambitious project from Kramer and crew. Not my area of expertise, but looks like a great way to work with 3D objects in AE, especially for folks who are used to a 2D workflow.

I can't believe this is "only" a plug-in!

Fusion for Grading http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5668/fusion-for-grading Sat, 05 Jan 2013 08:05:46 +0000 clyde_t 5668@/talks/discussions Now that connection offers easy access to the Eyeon Fusion toolset using Avid as a host app, has anyone tried grading with it? i did a little bit. i know the Fusion toolset well and it seems like a decent solution. just wondering what others think about this. i know a lot of people don't own Fusion because AE is so affordable in comparison, but I have used it for years and love it.

After Effects CS6: 3D Glasses Effect Convergence Problem http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5557/after-effects-cs6-3d-glasses-effect-convergence-problem Sat, 22 Dec 2012 15:17:39 +0000 BlueBomberTurbo 5557@/talks/discussions I'm having a problem in AE CS6 when setting "Scene Convergence" in the 3D Glasses effect. If I move it from 0, it'll start leaving blank space to the left and right sides of each clip ( [empty][Left][empty][empty][Right][empty] ). It's visible in all view settings, but most apparent in Stereo Pair (Left/Right), which is needed for the final output. I read that you can scale the two layers individually to get rid of the problem, but all that does is scale both at the same time, in essence just resizing the issue. Any ideas, or tutorials around, that can solve this? Can't find much info about the 3D Glasses effect on the web at all...

Grading on Plasma, if that´s my target medium...good idea? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3545/grading-on-plasma-if-thats-my-target-medium...good-idea Mon, 11 Jun 2012 08:49:49 +0000 JackBayer 3545@/talks/discussions Hello,

I have a nice Panasonic Plasma hooked up to my workstation. I am in the process of grading my short film (with AE and Colorista) and I was thinking to do all the color directly on my plasma. Since blu-ray will be the medium for delivery and I do not own a pro grade balanced monitor. In After Effects all my grading projects are in rec709 color space.

Any thoughts on that? Are there any pitfalls to look out for? Thanks!

AE CS5 as a simple timeline editor http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1932/ae-cs5-as-a-simple-timeline-editor Thu, 05 Jan 2012 04:27:01 +0000 stoney 1932@/talks/discussions
Currently I'm trying to use AE as the only editor. Importing, trimming, ripple insert, overlay insert, footage replacement, fading in/out effect, render queue, change default options, a lot of cool shortcuts, etc. All good except a few things.

RAM Preview was the only way to hear the sound, but it's so freaking slow to render. I have 8GB RAM. Anyone knows how to preview sound quickly? Launch external player? Increase RAM?

Once a MTS footage has been trimmed and inserted as a layer, is there a way to export the trimmed layer to DNxHD and automatically replace the content of the layer with the newly generated DNxHD file? This would shorten the transcoding process, save a lot of disk space, and fasten the color correction afterward.

When a layer's trim length changes, any easy way to ripple it to layers below it?

Thank you in advance.]]>
What settings to use in post for Final cut pro X and After Effects??? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/1270/what-settings-to-use-in-post-for-final-cut-pro-x-and-after-effects Mon, 24 Oct 2011 23:43:22 +0000 learrocket 1270@/talks/discussions
Then I edit my project. when I'm happy I want to send it to after effects to add some motion stabilizer and magic bullet looks cause FCPX can't handle looks yet. Now should I export it full size?? ok then I get it in AE C5.5 (this time the file was 1,8 Gb). I do my things but its extremely slow cause of the big file.

then I export it again and put it in FCPX again to add music and then I export it to vimeo (this time the file is 10,5 Gb?????).

I feel I'm not doing the right thing files are huge and the computer is suffering :).

would be nice if you (or someone) could describe a step by step how to do it!]]>
