Ricoh Theta SC - new 360 camera http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15874/ricoh-theta-sc-new-360-camera Wed, 12 Oct 2016 17:45:09 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 15874@/talks/discussions image

Specs:

Ricoh Imaging Americas Corp. today announced it has added a full-featured, affordably-priced mid-range model to its pioneering line of Theta 360-degree spherical imaging cameras. Merging advanced imaging capabilities with simplified operation, the new Ricoh Theta SC is designed to appeal to the growing numbers of consumers interested in capturing and sharing 360-degree photos and videos.

Market demand for cameras that capture immersive imagery is on the rise, and experts predict that devices required for augmented- and virtual-reality experiences—such as 360-degree cameras and VR headsets—will be at the top of consumers’ holiday 2016 gift lists.

Ricoh offers the industry’s most extensive line of spherical imaging cameras, known for their high image quality, sleek design and ease of use. First introduced in 2013, Theta cameras are unique in their ability to allow consumers to record fully spherical images that show the entirety of a scene in photos or videos. The pocket-sized Theta SC is the fourth-generation Theta, joining the award-winning, top-of-the-line Theta S and entry-level Theta m15 series cameras.

Like its predecessors, the Theta SC boasts a stylish and sleek design, lending itself to quick and convenient operation. The camera can be handheld with one-button operation or placed on a flat surface or tripod to be remotely controlled by a smartphone and the newly updated Theta S app. It comes in a range of attractive colors including beige, blue, pink and white for a wide range of users.

The Theta SC delivers the same high level of image quality provided the Ricoh Theta S—with a high-performance CMOS image sensor and large-aperture dual lenses—in a more lightweight package. It captures 14-megapixel, high-resolution stills and records high-definition (HD) video clips up to five minutes in duration, in keeping with consumers’ interest in shooting and sharing short video clips. The resulting spherical images can be easily uploaded to the dedicated theta360.com website; posted and shared via Facebook, Google+, Google Maps and YouTube, as well as shared via Twitter and Tumblr.

With the introduction of the Theta SC, Ricoh is also unveiling an updated Theta S app for iOS and Android devices. The newly updated Theta app is designed to be even easier to use— making capturing, viewing, managing and sharing fully spherical imagery a snap.

“Our goal is that the Theta SC will introduce more people to 360-degree spherical imaging,” said Kaz Eguchi, president, Ricoh Imaging Americas Corp. “With the growing popularity of immersive imagery, augmented and virtual reality, we wanted to produce a high-quality camera at an affordable price point that appeals to anyone who is interested in capturing and sharing the world around them in this new, exciting digital imaging format.”

Pricing and Availability

The Ricoh Theta SC is now at http://www.ricohimaging.com and retail outlets nationwide for a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $299.95 .

360 VR for Most of Us: the Kodak 360 4K Kit http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15006/360-vr-for-most-of-us-the-kodak-360-4k-kit Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:58:59 +0000 markr041 15006@/talks/discussions The GoPro 360 VR kit is $5,000. The workflow is incredibly complex, requiring synchronization and stitching of 6 separate videos (6 sd cards) and a very powerful computer. It is heavy and cumbersome.

It would appear that the best prosumer alternative is the Kodak 360 4K kit - two cameras shooting 4K. It is $899, and comes with an RF remote that starts and stops both cameras, free stitching software and the frame you need to shoot 360 with the two cameras. You set them to shoot at 2880x2880 (that is 4K if you do the math), and then the software synchs and rec-linearizes. It is small and light and can be set up in seconds.

Here is what a 360 video from the cameras looks like so you can see the quality:

Be sure to select 4K for viewing (regardless of what you are viewing on).

Google Jump http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13088/google-jump Mon, 01 Jun 2015 11:15:49 +0000 alcomposer 13088@/talks/discussions AKA the video UFO, or "much to do with a f**k load of gopros"

What we know so far:

  • 16 Cameras
  • Uses image computation to render 360 VR & 3D VR Scene, AKA Lightfield
  • Image computation may be too power hungry to run on a single computer- (maybe Google Compute?)
  • Youtube is now 360VR Aware- use python script to activate- with equirectangular video (4k looks like max)
  • GoPros have an extended battery (possibly the orange thing in the photo)
  • GoPros are also synced
  • Google experimenting with best material for UFO. Plastic - Metal - Wood - Unobtainium, final design will be available online
  • Looks like there may be a fisheye element on front of each camera, (otherwise how is the top & bottom captured)

360fly Announces Availability of New 360fly 4K Camera

Immersive 4K Video Camera Featuring Live Mobile Streaming Now

360fly, Inc. has announced the launch of its new 360fly 4K camera. Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year, the 360fly 4K camera boasts a higher resolution than its predecessor, intuitive filming and editing advancements and live mobile streaming capabilities via LIVIT mobile app.

360fly 4K adds a powerful new image sensor that quadruples the resolution of the first generation 360fly camera, producing 2880x2880, 360-degree 4K video. Additionally, the 360fly4K camera will offer the following upgraded and advanced features:

LIVIT Live Streaming: In partnership with LIVIT, 360fly allows users to live stream their 360 content across the LIVIT mobile app – so your friends and family can see all the action in real time. No editing or uploading required.

  • Front-Facing Mode: Not all situations require a 360-degree field of view. During those times, the 360fly 4K camera will allow users to record in a 16:9 aspect ratio at 2560x1440 resolution with a field of view of 178x100 degrees (204 diagonal).
  • Time-Lapse Video Mode: Tell a story in a dramatic fashion by capturing a 360-degreetime-lapse video. Users can select .5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60-second shutter intervals.
  • Motion and Audio Detection Mode: The 360fly 4K camera will automatically begin to record videos and photos based off any movement or sounds. This feature is great in surveillance or monitoring situations.
  • Accelerometer Activated Record Mode: Not all environments are smartphone friendly, and in those situations 360fly 4K camera users can activate record mode upon a significant accelerometer triggered event. For example, when users at the top of a ski slop start their run down the mountain, the camera will detect the acceleration and automatically begin to record.
  • Telemetry: The 360fly 4K camera features a built-in GPS sensor to tag locations, an altimeter and accelerometer – all powered by an advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Users can track altitude, speed and use third-party applications to overlay the data into their existing 360-degree video content.
  • Expanded Internal Memory: The 360fly 4K camera boasts 64G of internal memory.

With increased storage, there’s no need to pause your adventures to off load video.

OnePush Button Color-Coding: For clearer visibility and mode recognition, the 360fly 4Kcamera features an enhanced design with additional color-coded lighting around the OnePush button and bottom of the mounting dock.

The 360fly 4K camera offers two options for live streaming – a mobile option via LIVIT and a web cam mode for Facetime, Skype and other applications. For this, 360fly 4K pairs with its USB 2.0 charging base and is able to output a real-time full 360-degree HD video stream – providing a truly differentiated live viewing experience. The 360fly 4K camera is waterproof down to 30 feet and has a battery life of up to an hour and a half. Like the original, the 360fly 4K camera comes standard with Bluetooth, built-in Wi-Fi, and is compatible with a free Android and iOS mobile app that allows users to share content to popular social platforms like Facebook, YouTube and more.

Soocoo Cube 360 (actually... only half of a proper 360 degree camera) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14855/soocoo-cube-360-actually...-only-half-of-a-proper-360-degree-camera Wed, 23 Mar 2016 02:20:29 +0000 IronFilm 14855@/talks/discussions Noticed the Soocoo Cube 360 would be just US$150 for two (as each would cover half of the sphere), before I pull the trigger on it, is there anything else which is an even more frugal 360 degree video purchase than this? I'm thinking to get this just to dabble in making a few 360 degree videos, perhaps a short film or two, and then move on up to multiple array GoPro capture rig once I'm confident in it.

Teradek Sphere (360 degree live streaming video) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/14982/teradek-sphere-360-degree-live-streaming-video Mon, 18 Apr 2016 23:38:54 +0000 IronFilm 14982@/talks/discussions http://www.cnet.com/news/teradek-sphere-will-change-how-live-360-degree-vr-video-is-created/

From there you can use, for example, an iPad to view the video and dynamically adjust white balance, tint, exposure and lens distortion in real time for each camera. You can monitor the video in three different ways -- Perspective, Panoramic and Headset -- so you can see just how your viewers will see your content, whether that's on a mobile device, in a Web browser or in a VR headset.

The Sphere app can then be used to live-stream the 360-degree video to platforms like Wowza and YouTube, which now supports live-streaming 360-degree content.

"With the ability to stream to any destination at bit rates of up to 10Mbps and the flexibility to work with any rigged camera setup from GoPro to RED, Sphere will be the go-to solution for high-quality 360 streaming," said Teradek Brand Manager Topher DeLancy. "As VR grows we feel it will be another powerhouse media division alongside cinema, gaming and broadcast."

The Teradek Sphere will be available in June for $3,000 (approximately AU$3,875 or £2,100), but you can get a taste of its performance right now via a live-stream of the NAB 2016 convention or by downloading the free iOS app.

Has anyone used the Hague or what's the best £500 ($700) max budget. Opinions sought.

Special software for stitching together bullet time photos? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12242/special-software-for-stitching-together-bullet-time-photos Sun, 25 Jan 2015 23:43:49 +0000 kraqman 12242@/talks/discussions Nikon had a 360 degree "bullet time" camera array at CES to create the resulting videos such as this

Are there any software on the market that can stitch the pictures from the camera array into the resulting "bullet time" video? Or they are all in-house software?

There is a painstaking way of doing this in NLEs. I was wondering if there are more time saving software out there.

Thanks in advance!

360 degree recording & projection http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2601/360-degree-recording-projection Sat, 17 Mar 2012 10:23:55 +0000 driftwood 2601@/talks/discussions A few years back, the troubled Japanese company, Olympus, showed off a 360-degree HD camera and projector system - the first 360-degree, 1080i camera and projection solution.

Utilizing a proprietary system based around an "axisymmetric free-form-surface lens," the camera could shoot video at horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 360-and-50-degrees, respectively; the images could then be projected in the same range by a separate unit.

That was back in 2007 and nothing has ever materialised from them.

I am trying to help a company involved in the events sector to seek and find a current solution where they could offer a walk-in 360 arena (tent or whatever) and immersive world for an audience to view a dramatic show utilising 360 degree projected switchable backgrounds.

Does anyone know of where this technology is going (is it doomed?) or of any other viable solutions that could be made and put together using today's technology?
