I just came across this lens today and was wondering how it stacks up to the Panasonic 14mm f2.5. It seems the build quality is much better but then again the price is a tad up there. I also don't understand why there are no lenses that are "fast" with image stabilization and by fast I mean f2.0 and below.

Hi there,

I'm really interested in a rectilinear Ultra Wide Angle lens for my GH2 but can't decide between these two. I intend to do video and long exposures with it in all conditions (including bright daylight), that's why I'm interested in the ability to fit filters. On the other hand, the idea of going for a wide angle lens is to get that massive perspective, I'm really fond of it for architectural shots.

These two lens seem to be those that offer the widest rectilinear perspectives for the M4/3. I'm not interested in a fish-eye because I would like to shoot 1080p/i without loosing quality after de-fishing. If you aren't already familiar with these two lenses, I would sum up the plus and cons that really matter to me like so:

Panasonic 7-14mm (+ widest reach) (- can't fit filters)

Olympus 9-18mm (+ can fit filters) (- doesn't go as wide)

Price, constant aperture, small quality differences don't really matter to me.

In summary, as far as it goes in terms of what matters to me, what one has the other doesn't. That's why it's so hard to choose for me. Yes, I already researched this comparison thoroughly but never saw it applied particularly to video. Perhaps someone here faced the same dillema and managed to make a decision or could provide a recommendation based on something I'm unable to see here.

I do own a 20mm 1.7 it's great but the AF is a bit slow ... I like DOF

Hi - just got one of these. In video "standby" mode in GH2, I notice the AF works fine with that square turning green when in focus, but unlike my 14-140, when actually recording, push-AF doesn't seem to do anything. Should I be concerned?!

I am letting go my Samyang set..

I "need" to get some EF zooms, because I found out I do more doc style work and photos lately. 35 and 85 were protected by UV filters all along. No scratches or cleaning marks. The 14mm has slightly loose iris ring but nothing to be too concerned about. Asking 900€ for the set. Located in Lyon, France

I also have a Tokina Atx-pro 80-200 F2.8 Nikon mount for sale, 350€ or 380€ with adapter.

14-35 f2 Olympus on GH2 - what a glass.. but!

Received this monster yesterday. Its absolutly amazing glass, very nice subtile bokeh even in widest angle, small distortion and chromatic abberation, sharp, direct coupled focus + AF ... well, check the review. So in general I am perfectly happy (and poor now).

Now comes the BUT:
As you can see on the picture this thing is huuge. And heavy. I bought the original Olympus adapter, but still the lense has about 4 mm play at the front. (XY.. not Z ;)

As soon as you touch follow focus things become shaky. I already phoned Oly if there was some kind of clamp to fix it to the rig... but nothing. The cam is mounted in cage, but this lense is simply so long and heave that its to much for the mount i guess.

Any ideas who makes such clamp for a specific diameter? I don´t want to do DIY on this, it should match as bought.

PS:
If you think this would suit better into an existing topic let me know.

Hi, I recently got a used panasonic 14-45 lens from ebay described to be in very good condition. The lens seems so cheaply made, nowhere near my legacy lenses, it's like a toy...Real letdown. But what really troubles me is the zoom ring. It's okay when doing fast to medium movements but it feels sticky when zooming slow. It jerks and it's really hard to frame accurately especially on the wide side. Is the lens faulty or the same goes for your units? Thanks.

For my art and music show, I had been thinking for quite a while now about Robert Altman's use of extended depth of field in his movie "Prairie Home Companion." In his movie, Altman often stops the lens down to capture the ensemble feeling on the stage, sort of the opposite of using shallow DOF to highlight a soloist. So I decided to try and use this effect in the wide angle shots in this video--I used the Panasonic mini-pancake 14mm/2.5 at F4 (more was grainy). Nice to have the whole stage reasonably well in focus. Flowmotion II on lowest setting, as it was a concert and I needed the card space and reliable spanning. Unfortunately the heater blower was on during this winter show, I decided to leave most of the noise in and just roll off some of the rumble.
