This year's flagship travel-zoom compact from Panasonic, the new DMC-TZ60, adds a longer 30x zoom with a clever control ring, a useful electronic viewfinder, focus peaking for easier manual focusing, and very welcome RAW file support to last year's very appealing model. Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 continues to offer great image quality for this type of camera, with a usable ISO range from 100 to 800. Noise doesn't rear its ugly head until ISO 800, becoming more obvious at ISO 1600 along with excessive smearing of finer details.

The TZ60 has all the features you'd want from a travel camera and doesn't disappoint in terms of its image quality. When shooting RAW we did find processing acceptable. The LVF is a handy extra that you don't see on many compact cameras and its addition will appeal to many, as there are many photographers who much prefer to compose shots using a viewfinder rather than the screen. Overall, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 offers plenty, for a reasonable price.

The TZ60 continues to offer the features that have made this series stand-outs for travellers: a pocketable body with plenty of external controls that are straightforward to use. It also provides good picture quality with a usable ISO range from 100 to 800, where noise won't be an issue.
Movie enthusiasts may also welcome the 60/50p and High Speed modes, as well as the ability to record stereo soundtracks and the effective 5-axis stabilization system.

Panasonic's flagship travel-zoom, the Lumix TZ60 / ZS40, confidently takes the high ground to become the most sophisticated pocket superzoom camera to date. It's a natural approach for the TZ / ZS series as Panasonic has traditionally stayed one step ahead of rivals in a category which, lest we forget, it invented.
