@peternap I was just going to purchase the pelican version of this! Awesome find. Thank you!!
@vicharris It should be near perfect for your slider if that's what you had in mind. My slider is 4 feet and I had to make a case.
I own one of these, and while it's a good deal, it's not a replacement for a Pelican. It looks great but it is not durable. In fact, the black finish pealed off pretty quickly on mine, revealing what looks like firm cardboard below.
@Sangya Which one? The Plano or the Bolton?
@vicharris the HC36, from VK's original post. Can't complain too much because it's so cheap, but make sure to always keep it dry and out of sunlight. Any dampness or extended UV exposure may make it peel.
@Sangye Ahhh, got it. I'll just stick with the Bolton ones then. Pretty much the same thing as Pelican but 30-40% of the cost.
Keep in mind that pelicans have lifetime warranty. When something breaks, you call them and they send you a new part. Makes a difference also when you sell the case and get a large part of your money back.
@Jspatz Same deal with the Bolton cases ;)
@Jspatz I have a few of their cases but never broke one. I also have a few of their expensive dive lights. When you call, they promise to send the part right away. I've been waiting for a switch for one of the lights for 5 years.
And yes....I've called more than once. Don't think I'll bother asking for the broken handle on the biggest light.
I call them after almost every big trip and they send me the broken parts I request, including extras.
A pelican case is worth every penny when travelling. This case is $132, the same size as the Zeikos (@$75) but you get MORE. Padded dividers, wheels and telescoping handles all along with pelican legendary quality.....

Ok, yes, everyone knows about pelican. I really don't think there's a need to say how great they are here.
My personal preference is Pelican Storm. Everything about them is better than a regular Pelican. The latches don't murder your fingers, and the retractable handle doesn't look like some washboard/hammerhead bastard child.

I've been meaning to get a hard case with foam for my gh2 and lenses. Assuming these cases don’t have that foam that is perforated into square sections, what is the best way to cut the foam?
Just heat some knife and made proper places for your stuff. :-)
I bought 1" foam in a huge sheet, layered it and cut it with an xacto knife.
@kujina if this is for the cam and the lenses, I can also second you should get a Pelican case for so many reasons. Other hardware like sliders, tripods etc can go in a cheap case, but don't save on the one for the lenses and the cam. If you are going to be flying with it, or going somewhere rough, this can be very, very important. It has a lifetime warranty, is completely waterproof and (mine) has a suction socket (or whatever it is called) to suck the air out of the case, almost creating a vacuum inside. People who have checked their lenses in luggage can often tell you that you might have weird hazing (non permanent) and condensation in your lenses, as the baggage compartment is neither pressurized nor air conditioned (can be around -50 C in there) so go figure if you want to expose your lenses to that.

I second the Pelican case for all essential expensive gear. I have been using them for years. On the "long Way Round" they had one fall into a stream (filled with their DV tapes from shooting). Everything inside was dry, tapes and all.
@allenswrench the hazing is from condensation as the glass warms up to normal temp. Non permanent but I knew a DP on a TV show who claimed the heater in the camera truck which had not been plugged in overnight (by the union driver) had created an insurance claim, since he could see little marks on the inside of the lenses. He owned the lenses, and this was the first time I had a truck that even could be plugged in by the driver, so i think it was some insurance BS. I worked in that climate (NYC) for 10 years.
