Quite interesting internal rack with RAID option. Also useful if you have external recorder or upcoming BM raw camera.
@Vitaliy_Kiselev, do you know anything about how SSD's would work in a RAID config? I've never actually read anything about SSD RAID performance before.
@Vitaliy_Kiselev, Thx for the info. I really had no idea that SSD RAID even existed. I'm really getting out of touch with my tech info. I used to be up on all kinds of tech, but being a dad with college age kids really seems to have slowed me down :)
Now that I know about it, this is something i'm going to use in my new system. I'll let you guys know how it goes when I do.
For some reason I don't think I'd feel comfortable recording BM footage to a stripe. It feels a bit overly complex being reliant on the RAID chip and both disks in the right order. Recording to a mirror might satisfy some DIT requirements, but you're still reliant on the RAID chip layer to access your data.
I could see myself using one in the editing suite though. Everyone's mileage will vary though.
Concerning BM. I think whole purpose of it is ability to quickly insert two SSDs into your editing PC. Raid is not required. But as soon we'll see various 4K raw cameras, SSDs raid can be really useful :-)
@vitaliy_kiselev Agreed. You can get dual 2.5" from IcyBox for cheaper without RAID. Plus they do a 4x2.5" that fits in a 5.25" slot which is quite nice.

SSDs work quite nice in a RAID array and yes you can get an enclosure that takes 4 x 2.5 SSds (or HDDs) complete with a built in RAID controller. I have seen one in the local PC shop I think the brand was Patriot and the price was about $150
looking for a portable one for extractable 3.5" hdd, with firewire 800, anybody has a clue?
Make separate topic, this one is about specific product.
This Orico 229rsh looks very much like the Sans Digital InstaRAID IR12TB, it may be a copy-cat. That is a good RAID, with hot-swapping and automatic rebuild built into the firmware in the housing. Your computer sees it as a normal SATA drive, the RAID functionality is transparent to the host. It will boot an OS. I have used a lot of the Sans Digital MTS2UT twin 3.5inch RAIDs.
I just bought this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sans-Digital-Internal-RAID-3-5-Inch-/250715455592
