How to fix overbright backgrounds?

    Hi all!

    So recently I've been having a bit of an odd issue. I have an off white table with white stripes I use for recording. When I record something that is not filling a lot of the frame, I'm fine. But as soon as I film something that nearly fills the frame, the entire background gets blindingly bright and overexposed. This happens with two cameras I've tried. (Kodak Zi8, Sony Bloggie DUO HD)

    Here's some pics to give you an idea.

    This is ruining my shoots and driving me nuts! Any idea how I can fix this?

    its the camera.. we have 4 of them at work.. they ship them out and take them on trips etc... ZI8 for the money is a decent "flip cam" but its makes totally over saturated and bad footage.. and you really fix it in post becuse its so over blown. if i could only convince them to get some gf3's or something but they are "too big" to take on trips" even with pancake lenses.. I just shake my head and walk away. this is from people that have a carry on and 2 check bags and one is all shoes.. have not used the bloggie, can you adjust the saturation etc on them?

    So the camera's don't have any manual controls? If not what about adding a small adapter so you can mount a ND filter?

    Some people who shoot video with those canon P&S use ND filters outdoors to try and get the shutter down since it has no manual controls in video. Or maybe a polarizing filter?
