I don't think we have a topic on flags. So I thought I'd start it up. Anyone have recommendations for a nice quality, inexpensive flags for lighting? What is your preferred flag setup, etc.
Anything light won't penetrate can serve as a flag but putting it in the right spot to do just the job you want is what you really need to know. The pro way uses a c-stand with a black material around a frame that you artfully put into place. The DIY way is up to you. ie- anything solid that can be put into position, handheld or pinned down with a stand will work as good as you know how
for small flags, i adapted two crocodile clamps, one on either side of articulated necks, like this ones: http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/zoom/usb-flexlight.jpg the flag itself, as stated before, could be any material, as long as opaque. i have used plastic, cut from school-type binders, also foamcore, as well as simple card paper...as long as it does the job, right?
Although not collapsible, black foam core is an excellent flag option. Just need some clamps or grips. Quite inexpensive too. White foamcore as a reflector too.
