In 3-4 weeks ill be goin on a vacation to follow GoldRush Rally and or Gumball3000. I have my gh4 ready with tripod bag, batteries, sd cards ect. 2 lenses 14-140mm and fisheye.
I want to get a decent low light lens like 20mm 1.7 and a Rode Video Mic pro, question is should I rent them or jus buy? or rent one and buy one?
the rode vmp are like $120-180 on craigslist some even new.
thanks for any advice.
The Rode Video Mic Pro is awesome and a worthwhile addition to your kit. The lens you want is on sale for $130 off! http://www.adorama.com/l/Lenses/Panasonic~Mirrorless-Lenses?sel=Fixed-Focal-Length_20mm&utm_term=Other&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=Other&utm_source=rflaid67913&cvosrc=affiliate.67913
But the 20mm lens doesn't seem like something you need for the GoldRushRally or for use with the Mic.
Nice thing about lenses is that they are pretty cheap to rent lensrentals, borrowlenses, lensprotogo... I'm sure there are many other options. I'm a fan of renting gear unless it's something you'll use all the time, then it makes more sense to buy.
ok thanks for the info, Im considering getting this mic instead of the +$200 Rode VMP.
Get good advice - get best mike that you can.
@jclmedia that mic is ok I have one if your close to what you want to record and there isn't much noise around you. That being said if you will be any distance from your audio target or it's a noisy area get a proper shotgun Sennheiser MKE600 or Audio Technica 875R the AT needs phantom power but is under $175. Both get rave reviews.
the lens you want is only $200 used on ebay. You rent that for 3 weeks and it will cost you about $100.
if you only have $100 you can get one of those 50mm f1.4 takumars and an adapter for maybe less than $100.
$9 for adapter --> http://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Adapter-Olympus-Panasonic-DMC-GH1/dp/B0087AV8VU
Takumar --> http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/141654796859?lpid=82&chn=ps
