Issues discovered with the ned DJI Wireless Mic2 - Audio problems http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/28021/issues-discovered-with-the-ned-dji-wireless-mic2-audio-problems Sun, 21 Jan 2024 21:27:30 +0000 EspenB 28021@/talks/discussions Among the tons of glowing Mic2 reviews from the usual "influencer" suspects, there have now been a few videos with a different take.

First of all: of all the Mic2 vs Røde Wireless Pro comparisons the Mic2 sound noticeable worse, dull as well as other issues. But the features man...

Some mics seems to be duller sounding and more "muffled" in quality than other copies.

Anyway DJI now claims that there is a firmware bug in the Mic2 which causes the bad sound quality. Or at least some of them.

Clear difference in frequency response for different copies of the Mic2 transmitters built in microphones. If used with external mics no problems.

Bluetooth for audio transmission, i.e. DJI Mic2 function in various phones, cameras, etc. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/28019/bluetooth-for-audio-transmission-i.e.-dji-mic2-function-in-various-phones-cameras-etc. Sat, 20 Jan 2024 15:42:45 +0000 EspenB 28019@/talks/discussions Just curious why the heck the new DJI Mic2 transmitter with bluetooth audio will not connect to the GoPro Hero12.

Then again when I look at the list of supportet phones it's not so great either, while a lot of iPhones is listed the support for i.e. Samsung is only for devices which are a couple of years old. I.e. it works like a charm with my Samsung S22 Ultra, so no problems here.

So this begs the question if there is an issue with different / non supporting protocols / profiles?

It's not perfectly clear to me if protocol and profile are the same thing, or not?

From the documentattions:

DJI Mic2 transmitter supports bluetooth protocol BR / EDR (basic rate / enhanced data rate).

GoPro Hero12 supports HFP / HSP profile ( Hands Free Profile, Headset Profile).

That said the documentation for the Hero12 clearly shows that the BT audio is targeted at headsets: https://community.gopro.com/s/article/HERO12-Black-Bluetooth-Headset-Support?language=en_US

Documentation for DJI Mic2 and mobile phone compatibility list: https://dl.djicdn.com/downloads/DJI_Mic_2/compatibility%20list/DJI%20Mic%202-%20Mobile%20Phone%20Compatibility%20List_EN.pdf

And; while the DJI Mic2 works with their own products like Pocket 3 and Action 4, it also seem to be supported by the latest Insta360 AcePro action cam. So clearly not a DJI exclusive support either.

So finally my question; is it probable that the GoPro BT audio is implemented in a way which will not be compatible with the latest DJI Mic2 transmitter?

Sony URX-P41D two-channel portable audio receiver http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/26925/sony-urx-p41d-two-channel-portable-audio-receiver Fri, 08 Apr 2022 08:23:18 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 26925@/talks/discussions

Sony Electronics has announced a new URX-P41D two-channel portable receiver, supporting MI (Multi Interface) shoe with Digital Audio Interface. The URX-P41D, boasts all the key features included in the 4^th^ Generation UWP-D Series, such as improved high sound quality from Digital Audio Processing, NFC Sync for quick and easy set-up from Receiver to Transmitter and functions such as Auto Gain mode and Output level control, making the job of recording sound even easier.

As part of the market leading UWP-D Series, the URX-P41D will work with all UWP-D transmitters (backwards compatible withprevious generations) and will be available as a stand-alone receiver and as part of a new kit, the UWP-D27, which will include two UTX-B40 Bodypack Transmitters.

The URX-P41D is ideal for many users ranging from broadcast and news productions, to run and gun style interviews, or documentaries and series productions, using Sony's XDCAM™ camcorders, Alpha™ interchangeable lens cameras and select Cinema Line cameras.

Key new features include:

  1. Digital audio interface to improve sound quality
    • Sony's Digital Audio Processing, which uses DSP (digital signal processing) for digital companding, improves sound quality by optimizing a time-constant range between the transmitter and receiver, making the reproduction of sound more accurate. It provides superb transient response performance which for enables clear and crisp audio for interview style recording.
    • Using the SMAD-P5 MI shoe adaptor enables direct digital audio recording and delivers high sound quality with low noise by skipping the D/A and A/D process. This interface is compatible with a wide range of Sony's XDCAM camcorders, Alpha interchangeable lens cameras and Cinema Line cameras^1^. It also integrates seamlessly with Sony's camcorders and displays audio information on the viewfinder for enhanced usability in the field.
  2. "NFC SYNC" function to allow quick and easy channel setting
    • Simple and quick channel setting for reliable RF transmission when time pressure is high is becoming crucial. Delivering enhanced usability, the unique "NFC SYNC" feature is designed for easy and fast frequency setting. By simply holding the NFC SYNC button on the receiver for a few seconds, it automatically scans the appropriate frequency. Thereafter, just touching the receiver to the transmitter will sync the channel for optimum speed and efficiency.
    • A new 'all band' scanning feature utilizing the NFC pairing function makes quickly finding the two best channels easy, regardless of location. Additionally, sequential pairing simplifies the process further by assigning each frequency to two transmitters in one function.
  3. Compact form factor, with improved ergonomics
    • By reducing the size of the receiver from previous generations, the URX-P41D can sit on top of the camera or ILC attached to the MI shoe or cold shoe allowing for improved balance on the camera.
  4. External Microphone Input and Three-channel mixing function
    • The External Microphone Input for an additional wired microphone widens the sound capture options. Three-channel audio recording is available by using a Sony lavalier microphone through the external microphone input. Furthermore, four-channel audio recording is also possible when using a stereo microphone through the external microphone input.
  5. Stable RF reception
    • The URX-P41D can reduce interruptions in reception (RF signal dropout), by utilizing a space diversity reception system, which achieves highly stable reception because of its two receiving antennas. The angle of the antennas on the portable receiver can also be adjusted, which helps to further eliminate signal dropout.
  6. Functions to improve performance when on location
    • Auto gain mode and Output level control brings the user peace of mind that the audio levels are correct when out in the field. Auto gain will help to prevent any unwanted distortion and Output level control (when using XLR cable) allows the user to increase the output level where necessary.

The URX-P41D and UWP-D27 will be available beginning in April 2022 for a suggested list price of $679.99 and $1,229.99, respectively. All UWP-D series models can be found at https://pro.sony/uwpd.

PR

The world’s smallest and first truly wireless microphone has been reborn. Meet the RØDE Wireless GO II, a new ultra-compact and extremely versatile dual-channel wireless microphone system. Offering the same pocket-sized form factor and professional sound quality as the best-selling Wireless GO, with a host of incredible new features making it even more powerful and flexible, this is next-generation wireless audio from RØDE.

The original Wireless GO, released in 2019, revolutionised audio for content creators. With its innovative form factor, unique clip ‘n’ go versatility, and in-built microphone offering truly wireless recording for the first time, it changed the way creators captured sound for video.

The Wireless GO II offers all of these features and much more, including dual-channel recording, universal compatibility with cameras, mobile devices and computers, extended range and improved transmission stability, and on-board recording capabilities. Wireless audio has changed again.

“The original Wireless GO was a gamechanger,” says RØDE CEO Damien Wilson. “It truly revolutionised sound capture for everyone from vloggers to business professionals producing content while working from home. The form factor and feature set had never been seen before and many have attempted – and failed – to replicate it since.”

“The Wireless GO II is a huge leap forward in terms of useability and versatility while retaining all the elements that made the first edition such a success. It represents RØDE’s mission to innovate and continue evolving our product lines, always with creators in mind. The Wireless GO II is once again going to change the way people record audio for their content.”

UNMATCHED VERSATILITY

The Wireless GO II takes the versatility of the original to new heights. Each kit contains two transmitters and a single receiver, allowing users to capture two sound sources simultaneously – perfect for a wide range of filmmaking scenarios, from recording interviews to two-person vlogs. It can also be used as a single channel wireless microphone for recording just one sound source.

The Wireless GO II features a 3.5mm analog TRS output for plugging into cameras, plus a digital audio output via USB-C for plugging into smartphones, tablets and even computers. This universal compatibility with any device makes the Wireless GO II extremely versatile, ideal for everyone from filmmakers to YouTubers to business professionals.

Another groundbreaking feature is its on-board recording capability. The Wireless GO II can record over 24 hours of audio directly to each transmitter (without the need for an SD card), ensuring a backup recording is always available in post-production in case of transmission dropouts and other audio issues.

This feature is activated via RØDE Central, a new app that gives users access to firmware updates and advanced features for the Wireless GO II. In addition to onboard recording, these include activation of the safety channel, which records a second track at -20dB in case the main channel distorts, a fine gain control that expands the three-stage pad to a 10-stage pad, and more. The Wireless GO II is the first RØDE product to utilise RØDE Central, with the VideoMic NTG, AI-1 and others to be integrated in future.

Other key features of the Wireless GO II include the ability to switch between mono and stereo modes, allowing users to record each transmitter separately or combine the two for ultimate flexibility in post-production, a mute button, in-built rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that last up to 7 hours, and more.

No other wireless microphone system packs in such an incredible range of features, making the Wireless GO II one of the most versatile microphones on the market.

ULTRA-COMPACT WIRELESS AUDIO

The Wireless GO II offers the same pocket-sized form factor as the original. The receiver weighs just 32g and the transmitters weigh just 31g, with each measuring less than a matchbox, taking up virtually no space in a camera kit bag, backpack, handbag or briefcase.

The transmitters and receiver feature the same unique clip design as the original, which make them incredibly easy to clip onto talent and mount onto a DSLR or mirrorless camera, mobile camera rig, boom pole or cold shoe accessory. This also means the extensive range of Wireless GO accessories work with the Wireless GO II, including the Interview GO and MagClip GO. Ultra-compact wireless audio for any recording situation.

Each Wireless GO II kit ships with a flat TRS memory cable for plugging into cameras and three USB-C to USB-A cables for connecting to computers for charging and recording (additional RØDE cables or adaptors are required for connecting to mobile devices and computers with USB-C inputs). There is also a handy carry pouch for keeping the kit tidy and secure.

PROFESSIONAL SOUND. SEAMLESS CONNECTIVITY

The Wireless GO II has been designed to deliver professional sound while being incredibly simple to use. Out of the box, the two transmitters come auto paired to the receiver and will remember which channel they’ve been assigned to in future, ensuring a seamless setup process every time.

The system utilises RØDE’s all-new Series IV 2.4GHz digital transmission with 128-bit encryption, which delivers an extended range of up to 200m (line of sight) and is optimised for operation in areas with a high level of RF activity, including dense urban environments, shopping malls, universities, convention centres and offices. The internal antenna has been redesigned to ensure an extremely stable connection, and with on-board recording providing a backup of all audio, users never have to worry about dropouts again.

Each transmitter features a high-quality in-built omnidirectional condenser capsule for completely wireless recording, plus a 3.5mm TRS input for plugging in a lavalier microphone, such as the RØDE Lavalier GO.

The Wireless GO II also comes with three furry windshields, which incorporate an innovative new twist-to-lock design for recording in windy conditions, ensuring crystal-clear, professional sound in any situation.
