The hack is messing up my GF3 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/28126/please-help-the-hack-is-messing-up-my-gf3 Tue, 24 Sep 2024 00:34:36 +0000 mrzuzi 28126@/talks/discussions I have done only language patching, but my GF3 is now dieing due to sleep issue. When turning off, it goes into deep sleep that I have to spam the shutter button countless of time in order to make it awake again. It is working totally fine without the hack, and still working if I don't turn it off but removing the battery. The more I run firmware updating, the deeper sleep (I have to hit shutter button way quicker and more aggressive). I am suspecting the 3.66d version of PTool doing not right thing.

If anyone still having version 3.65d, could you share with me so I can try to re-updating firmware again, or is there anyway to reset to original firmware, I know it is possible with GH1 firmware (with 0.0 version set) but it is not an option in the hack for GF3 firmware.

Thank you very much.

Previous rumors

  • Panasonic wants to add 8K support, most probably at 24p only
  • m43 sensor can be first present only at GH6 presentation time and will be exclusive for 1-2 years
  • 8K support can be interpolated (from around 5.7-7K), but can be true 8K, depends on sensor version Sony chooses
  • Next focus will be improving high frame rates
  • AF will be kept at same level, slightly faster, just with more options
  • Will use this EVF - https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19797/meet-first-gh6-part-1600x1200-resolution-oled-evf#Item_1
  • GH6 can be first camera with AI and cloud based features with monthly cost
  • Other features can be possible to be enabled permanently, but paid, similar to V-LOG license
  • Panasonic also wants to account for big currency fluctuations
  • So, price will rise compared to GH5, but it can be GH6V (value edition) with 8K and other features disabled that you can buy later
  • GH lineup, after one year of introduction, will be 3 cameras - GH6V, GH6 and GH6X (top one, similar to mix of G9 and GH5S)
  • First announcement round will be fall of 2019 and next CP++ will be release time

G100 can record 4K resolution video at 30p and 25p in 10-minute sessions, or FHD at 60p in 20-minute session. Really.

Specs

  • 20,3 Mp m43 sensor
  • 12 stops in V-Log L
  • 5 axis Hybrid IS (electronic only, no sensor stab)
  • Contrast AF only, severe hunting in face and eye detection modes (DFD for photos)
  • Very bad cooling due to cheap construction
  • Due to old LSI video modes are very limited
    • UHD 24fps 100Mbit H.264, 10 minutes limit
    • UHD 30fps 100Mbit H.264, 10 minutes limit
    • 1080p 60fps 28Mbit H.264, 20 minutes limit
    • 1080p 30fps 20Mbit H.264
    • 1080p 24fps 24Mbit H.264
    • 720p 30fps 10Mbit H.264
    • Slow-fast fps modes with 4-120fps at 1080p
  • 3650k EVF (optics and construction will be much cheaper than L/GH lineup)
  • 1840k LCD (resusing old panel previously used in higher end model)
  • 802.11n/Bluetooth 4.2, lack of modern standards due to very old LSI
  • Micro USB port, USB 2.0 (limit of outdated LSI)
  • Micro HDMI port (also very bad!)
  • 3.5mm microphone input, lack of 3.5mm headphone output!

G95 is my new Lumix http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/28087/g95-is-my-new-lumix Tue, 28 May 2024 23:01:18 +0000 apefos 28087@/talks/discussions GH2 was my first camera for shallow dof, before it i just used camcorders, but it stop working due to got very old.

G7 was my second lumix but i sold it due to money problems.

I was feeling a gap, a blank, a lack in my existence, because Lumix was a part of my life history...

So i found a used G95 almost new for a good price, and i also found a Metabones ultra 0,71x for quarter of price, i can use full frame and aps-c lenses. The Metabones is amazing, it does not degrade the image quality, i can use the lenses wide open, after using Metabones you can never go back to cheap focal reducers.

I am very happy with this combo: headphones output, V-Log L, great 1080p and 4k quality, Neatvideo cleans it pretty good up to 2500 iso, V-Log L deliver great dynamic range, of course it is not a GH5s for low light, but GH5s is very expensive and out of my reach. The crop in 4k is not a problem because Metabones solve it, and i mainly use 1080p. MP4 420 8bit is enough for me, and it is real time editing. I saw some reviews and overheating does not seem to be a problem.

Why a person can be so happy with an old technology instead of save money to more modern cameras? I dont know, i think it is some kind of emotional feeling... but maybe there are other reasons: i am a low budget guy, i think the sensor technology will develop and pay lots of money to top cameras now is a wrong decision, i like to extract the best from cheap gear, and i need to find a way to make more money...

Future GHx with PDAF predictions for spring 2023 http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27460/future-ghx-with-pdaf-predictions-for-spring-2023 Sun, 08 Jan 2023 19:32:46 +0000 EspenB 27460@/talks/discussions It's my gut feeling that both the GH5M2 and GH6 are EOL.

There is a lot of conjecture here, but my observations are the following:

Fire sale of the GH5M2all over (Norway, UK, Germany). Mostly bodies as the GH5M2 kits have been sold out during the black friday week. UPDATE: One retailer lists the GH5M2 as discontinued.

Also hefty rebates in the GH6 last year (-500 USD in US, same as on the S5 mk I BTW, in europe it was 400 euro winter cash back). Current GH6 discount at B&H is still -300USD. GH6 lens kits sold out from many german retailers, some list mid march for new stock/replacements.

Also the 12-35 mm f2.8 mk II lens have been observed at dumping prices, i.e. buy a GH6 get the 12-35 mm f2.8 for FREE (Norway).

So my personal prediction; both the GH5M2 and GH6 are end-of-life. The last GH6 has probably already departed from the factory. New high end m43 camera, probably an upgraded GHx, with the new Pana Leica 12-35 mm f2.8 kit zoom, will be here in 3-4 months.

Possible/Likely announcement at CP+ in february.

Suggestion for a warning in one of ptool3 settings ? http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/28031/suggestion-for-a-warning-in-one-of-ptool3-settings- Sun, 10 Mar 2024 15:58:03 +0000 ludo0565 28031@/talks/discussions Hello everyone,

In connection with a problem that I recently had and solved (see here: https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/28027/gh1-.mts-file-corruption-anything-to-do-), I noticed then that there is an incompatibility: it is improper to have on the same sd card films shot with the setting "AVCHD Movie Mode" --> "Wrapper" --> "Native 24p/25p" and films shot without.

In my case, I saw that, after having installed the firmware with the hacked setting "AVCHD Movie Mode" --> "Wrapper" --> "Native 24p/25p", it was impossible to watch videos shot without this setting (i.e. shot with 50i): the camera would freeze, nothing more would happen, I had to switch the camera off. I repeated the procedure three times, and the same problem happened everytime with different clips shot with old settings (the three clips I shot with the new settings played fine).

I inferred from this, that I should avoid having the two types of videos on one single card.

It reminded me of a similar notice that I read in ptool: in "Patches for end users" --> "Movie related restrictions" --> "PAL <-> NTSC Menu" setting states in its /!\ warning: "You must clear sd card from other format footage".

If I may allow myself to make a suggestion for a future update of ptool3, I would say that the same warning ought to apply to the setting "AVCHD Movie Mode" --> "Wrapper" --> "Native 24p/25p", or an information to the effect that "There is an incompatibility between films shot with this new setting and films shot without it. Watching films shot with the old setting while the camera has the new setting might lead to camera freeze."

Cheers

In camera video cutting/trimming/dividing http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/28029/in-camera-video-cuttingtrimmingdividing Fri, 01 Mar 2024 11:11:21 +0000 ludo0565 28029@/talks/discussions Hello everyone,

Still trying to find a solution to this problem (https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/28027/gh1-.mts-file-corruption-anything-to-do-#Item_2).

I saw here (https://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/621/removing-the-corrupted-start-up-gh2-avchd-frames./p1) that it is possible to divide or cut films in the Lumix GH2 - and I suppose that it is also possible to do it in any of the later GH's as well, isn't it?

Now my question would be: is it possible to cut/divide a film that was shot with a GH1 in a GH2 or 3/4 and further? That means inserting an SD card that was formatted and used with a GH1 in a GH2 or even later... Could that work ?

Thanks for any suggestion and feedback on experience on this matter.

Panasonic GH2 Custom Neat Video Profiles (noise reduction) http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23754/panasonic-gh2-custom-neat-video-profiles-noise-reduction Thu, 09 Apr 2020 07:47:38 +0000 TreyM 23754@/talks/discussions Hi everyone, I spent a few hours over the past two days creating some Neat Video noise profiles for the GH2 running Moon T8. Currently, I have only created profiles for the 24H, 24L, and 720p60 SH settings, and I use Neat Video version 4. I'm not sure if these profiles will work on other versions, but they may.

If there is enough interest, I can begin to expand the profiles to support more video modes and various hacks beyond Moon T8.

I created a profile for each ISO setting, including secondary settings for the ISO bugged modes (up to 2500 ISO for those) ("clean" is normal, "dirty" is with the bug in case you forget to fix the problem and shoot with the ISO bug)

These profiles were created using the Smooth film mode at -2 -2 -2 -2, though they will probably still work with other modes. What is being picked up here is mostly sensor ISO noise since Moon T8's bitrate is so high.

The end result is that I have been able to recover about 1 - 1.5 stops of extra detail in the shadows on my shots as opposed to it looking like a total mess of noise. If you shoot at crazy high ISO settings, it can't make a shot at 12,800 ISO look like 200 ISO, but as long as your footage is reasonable, you can greatly expand the usable dynamic range of the camera and color grading is that much better.

These profiles should be used FIRST before doing any other processing such as grading, sharpening, scaling, or color correction. Etc...

The 1080p24 profiles seem to work fine on footage shot in variable mode, for example, if you use the 80% mode for slight slow motion.

So.... RS3 Pro is $900 and the Lidar module is $600, a whopping total of $1500. I have a few DJI gimbals, RS2 and RS3 Mini, which both can't support the Lidar module, so this is a toss. Also the RS3 Pro is a heavy and large gimbal which supports up to 4.5 kg payload. Overkill for most GHx cases. So, I can get the PDAF focus G9M2 in a few weeks for a few 100's more and use on my RS3 Mini and get the added benefits of the latest sensor performance and processing. As well as the more light weight gimbal. It really doesn't add up for me personally. And hoping for a GH7 announcement soon in any case.

This Lidar stuff would have been super like 5 years ago.

Undoubtedly someone which owns both the GH6 and the DJI RS3 Pro would find this more exiting news I would guess.

The Panasonic "PDAF" rant http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27459/the-panasonic-pdaf-rant Thu, 05 Jan 2023 19:26:00 +0000 EspenB 27459@/talks/discussions So finally Panasonic caved in and the long rumours about phase AF turned out to be true. As I recall there was strong rumours about the GH6 getting phase AF as well from several sources, one person living in Japan in particular. Which only partially was true. No PDAF for GH6 after basically SIX years of developement, but PDAF was indeed running in the dark corners of Panasonic skunk works.

Alas, the GH6 released without PDAF and I quite frankly refused to get another Death from Defocus top model. And upgraded from the GH4 to the GH5M2 - which was a rather nice upgrade for sure after being financially challenged for the Panasonic IBIS days. A feature which also was long overdue on the Panasonic feature sheet at the time BTW.

As a long standing Lumix G / GH user today is "the day after" the glorious and extravagant full frame PDAF five day press junket release initiated in Japan in early december. And being under wraps until CES 2023 besides the usual leaks - intentional or not - to bring up the hype. And a nice press junket it seem be with a couple of dozen influencers (also previous DFD naysayers like iphonedo) which seems to carry home a new S5M2 camera and 6-7 lens selection as swag. Some have claimed that hardware will be returned, I'm not sure that's true. Here in Norway it's a financial burden to receive so much free stuff as a influencer / youtuber as you have to pay income tax on the retail value. I'll leave the junket and possible free stuff. After all envy is one of the seven deadly sins.

As a long standing Lumix G user whit no current plan to switch to the 35 mm sensor size the S5M2 launch was of course all about Panasonic implementing PDAF in a camera. Personally I don't find Lumix S to be the prefered «full frame» system of choise if such a investement should be made. Or perhaps divestment from Lumix G. The Lumix S lens range is rather limited to standard zooms at different price points. As well as five «videocentric» primes for the DOF crowd. There are currently no serious tele lenses, specialities like fisheye or ultra wide angle lenses in the lens map. Alas I find that the S5M2 or the whole Lumix S system for that matter is is basically the FF system for the causual kit zoom shooter.

Things may improve in the future, but heck for my personal needs I have wanted the glorious Sony G-master 12-24 mm f2.8 ever since it was released. If going FF.

Alas back to the junket and CES release. There does not seem to be any wording released on future cameras with PDAF. Not even a basic roadmap saying that PDAF will be in all new cameras from now on. Might be self explanary, but heck is a rather interesting thing for the crowd which does not crave for Pansonics new budget friendly «slow sensor» influencer FF piece.

Only the «micro four nerds» influencer @emilymaylowrey seems to have given the issue the proper exposure, stating that Panasonic engineers present at the junket in Japan declined to comment on the issue.

I really hope Panasonic is able to get a new premium Lumix G camera with PDAF out ASAP. A GH6M2. In the next six months. Or maybe Panasonic wants us all over to the glorious Lumix S line. I'm not taking the bait. Please give us long standing Lumix G users the real stuff. Preferably at CP+.

December 2022 press junket in Japan: rumours about future phase detect cameras coming soon. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27407/december-2022-press-junket-in-japan-rumours-about-future-phase-detect-cameras-coming-soon. Fri, 16 Dec 2022 07:09:12 +0000 EspenB 27407@/talks/discussions We all know that a bunch of Lumix users/influencers/ambassadors was in Japan for a press junket at Panasonic earlier in december. No leaks so far. Influencers usually get 14 days or so to make their review before anything is announced and embargo lifted.

Rumour: Lumix S5 replacement with phase detect autofocus...

Also the Lumix G 12-35 f2.8 lens was annouced with a Leica DG upgrade this week. This is clearly again a "kit zoom" for the upper end packages. It was one of the kit zooms back in the GH3 and GH4 days. Before the switch to the 12-60 f2.8-4 for GH5 and GH6. I guess there will be a new m43 camera announcement soon also with this as a kit lens. Hopefully also with that new phase detect autofocus which is rumoured after the december press junket in Japan. CES in january 2023 og CP+ show late february.

Panasonic Leica DG Elmarit 200mm F2.8 discontinued http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/27384/panasonic-leica-dg-elmarit-200mm-f2.8-discontinued Tue, 22 Nov 2022 18:47:01 +0000 EspenB 27384@/talks/discussions Introduced in november 2017 the Panasonic Leica DG Elmarit 200mm F2.8 have been marked as discontinue at the japaneese Panasonic page. Also discontinued is the associated teleconverters (1.4 and 2.0).

The Panasonic Leica DG Elmarit 200mm F2.8 is a fast telephoto lens that is equivalent to 400mm when mounted on a Micro Four Thirds body. (An included 1.4x teleconverter increases the equivalent focal range to 800mm.)

The lens probably only had a single production run. It was the single most expensive lens in the Pana Leica lens collection, retailing for a whooping USD 3000. It probably was a slow seller despite the premium optical quality.

Praise for the 200 mm:

While we are at it these lenses have also been discontinued in the past:

H-FSA45200
H-FS14140-KA / H-FS14140 (none splash proof design of the super zoom)
H-FS1442A-KA / H-FS1442A

The first one is perhaps better served by the Pana Leica 50-200 (at a premium price point).

The 14-42 kit lens is replaced by the 12-60 kit lens.

Help with Panasonic Lumix Club protocol http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/26965/help-with-panasonic-lumix-club-protocol Thu, 05 May 2022 16:23:22 +0000 afrancksen 26965@/talks/discussions Panasonic has already shut down Lumix Club for most cameras last year, and the rest at the end of this month. So, time is of the essence.

I am trying to make an open source replacement server so that the WiFi feature can continue being used to its full extent. It is possible, because one of the first things the camera does is download over http what root certificate it should use. I successfully set up a man-in-the-middle tool with the current Lumix Club server (lumixclub.panasonic.net), but it seems to be different than the old server (lumixclub.picmate.jp) and not provide all of the API's the older cameras need.

I am wondering if anyone has either of the following things:

  1. A man-in-the-middle packet capture of a Lumix camera connecting to Lumix Club. This could be basic connection, uploading an image, uploading to cloud sync (Ustream etc). I did find one packet capture but they did not use a MITM tool so I can't see anything beyond the root cert download. It would be helpful to do this with a newer camera if possible while the service is still up, as there are probably still similarities between them.
  2. A Panasonic ROM that has the wifi capability to connect Lumix Club, to extract the strings and/or disassemble it to see what sort of responses the camera is expecting.

Thank you in advance.

Do you know if it is possible to do video live streaming with any of the first three cameras of the GH series (GH1 or GH2 or GH3) ?

Over USB ? Or over HDMI ? (I would rather suppose over HDMI)

In case you were successful: you probably used a capture card - which card did you use ?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

All this "camera" has is quickly made site and few bad 3d renders for now.

The company is aiming to officially start shipping the production version of Alice to customers in the summer of 2021 with a retail price of £750 (~$955)

And some strange dumb plastic on working prototype.

On screen you see only smartphone cameras images nothing made by the "startup".
